There were nine piers with haunches. Some of the pier holes ended up being closer to the wall than others. What is important is that the haunch is substantial enough and beneath the section being lifted.
In your barn situation you could drill a pier angled down from the outside, cut in a haunch, and lift that section like it wasn't anything but a thing.
I was lucky in finding a friend with a bunch of concrete blocks that are made for foundation repair. I'm not sure how well regular solid concrete blocks would hold up under that kind of weight.
