BP

Great job!

By no means a tractor mechanic or otherwise!

Only wanted to understand your reason for doing the way u did

Thx

Keep up the good work!

Thank you. The oil filter has an anti-drain back valve, so taking it off first has some merit. Having it off, AND having the bottom draining at the same time is also good.

Why are some folks loosing all or most of the hid fluid when they do this,,and you only lost 1 pint?,,' are people pulling the wrong filter?,,,,,,,BP are you doing the 50 hr service like you said in the OP ,,,or the 400hr service,,,that's why I asked about the front axle

Doing the first anniversary service, a bit early, because I've about hit 50 hours anyhow. Around here, I'm always pressed for time, and the time available was now. My typical annual use is right at 70 hours.

Why do folks lose more fluid with the HST filter? Speculation only. Perhaps they did not leave their fill caps and dip sticks in? Leave them on to help "hold" the fluid. No make up air rushing in. I dunno.

As for draining the front axle, it is merely a personal preference, held by me and a whole bunch of knowledgeable folks. Nothing wrong with having sudt up there, but synthetic gear lube? Ah.... 'tis a beautiful thing.

nice tutorial, bp! A picture IS worth a thousand words.
Dumb question: Does 'do it yerself' void any warrantee? I know some require OEM parts/fluids, and mfrs will look for everyway to evade responsibilities.

Agree with JT and TripleR. No way does doing the service yourself void the warranty. I've never taken my trucks or cars back to the dealerships for their oil changes either.

TBN pictorial evidence of having done the service, using Kubota filters. It doesn't get any better than that. :D:D
Full compliance. The manual actually shows you how to do it yourself, presupposing that you will.

Thanks for the warrantee answer(s)
Having read horror tales here about dealer "service", there are good reasons to do it yourself. The 'check everything on the new machine' is good insurance against careless/uncaring mechanics.

Realize too, that some folks want to drop all their fluid. This is, again, their personal preference to do. I chose to delay dumping all that fluid at this time, seeing no reason to do so.

I can tell you this, however. I won't be going 400 hours before I do go ahead and dump it all. For me, it would simply take too long, on the calendar, to accumulate 400 hours. Again, that's just me. Probably do the full monte at or around 200, or 3 years, whichever comes first. I'm more seasonal calendar sensitive than hours/miles focused on everything; cars, trucks, mowers, tractor, boat, etc.

Kind of a "farmer thing", I guess.

Doesn't the manual list both hours and/or time/months?

Don't know about all the Kubota manuals, but mine have only listed hours. That's it.
The auto makers generally state time use span in both, and I've seen it given only in months on homeowner equipment. Gotta use some common sense either way, I guess.

Hours turn into days, which turn into weeks, then months. One of our regulars, above, just did his 50 hour service on a tractor he bought in June of last year. That's a little over 3 hours a month.
My "Yella Fella", old enough to be a grandfather, sometimes sits for six months before being called up for a task. My local diesel guru, with a fleet of trucks, excavators, dozers, etc, says sitting idle is worse for a machine than using it on a regular basis. And he didn't just mean mouse nests in the wiring!

That regular was me. It's on a dedicated mowing machine which gets no use from Nov to April. It takes me about 3 hours to mow my property with my F so I figured I mowed about 16 times from June of last summer and this summer. Still got maybe one or two more mowings this year to do.
I hate letting electronics and machinery sit for extended periods of time without use but no choice with the F mowers I have. I probably won't wait until the hours are reached for doing my services due to the length of time it will take for me to reach those hours. Oil and oil filters are not super high and I'll probably change them way more than required per manual based on hours of use.
I purchased a car from a Chrysler/Dodge dealer which includes Free Oil changes for life. They will do it every four months or 4000 miles, which ever comes first. I'm figuring I'll have maybe 1200 miles on my Challenger in four months as I did on a Ram 1500 truck. They said bring it in and get it changed. Seems a waste but who am I to argue with them?:)

I am pretty sure the one on my L5030 does, but I may be having one of those senior moments; will have to check.
