Kubota L6060 vis a vis JD 4066R ROPS

. . . . Though I like the ePTO as it is effective in keeping RPMs down to save fuel and accumulated "hours," I am not certain how often I will be able to use it. . . .

I was wondering the same thing. I.e., since you are looking for more HP, will you actually use the ePTO enough to make it worthwhile?

I've never had a tractor with ePTO, but I always assumed it was for fairly light cutting chores but not for heavy challenging work. But I could be wrong.

The published PTO HP rating of the 4066R is 54, whereas that of the 6060 is 53, an insignificant difference.

Though I like the ePTO as it is effective in keeping RPMs down to save fuel and accumulated "hours," I am not certain how often I will be able to use it.

The hydraulically switchable Hi-Lo is, however, desireable and an issue that I had overlooked.

Sorry about the incorrect hp ratings, I had looked the specs up on tractordata and the pto hp was listed there at 46.5 for the L6060. I did go to the Kubota website before posting this and see the gross hp is 62 and the pto hp is 53.
Tractordata needs to make some corrections I think.

About the hour meter, a lot of the newer tractors do not register hours in full rpm engine hours, that was common with the mechanical driven tachometers. A lot of the newer machines simply measure ignition run time, leave the key in the on position with the tractor not running and it still adds hours to the clock. This is beneficial to the manufacturer in that they get through the warranty hours much faster.

I use the e pto for running a 6ft tiller frequently and always use it for spin spreaders and other light loads. It also worked fine for lighter brush mowing too.

Nebraska test reports are legitimate and worth looking at imo, while they report higher pto hp ratings for the 4720 they also stated the hydraulic out put was lower than the manufacturer specs. They have always been fair and factual over the decades.

EPTO is advantageous for some chores but not others.

I just bought a 90 PTO HP Kubota M9960HSD12 ROPS for mowing duty. It will be used 90-95% of the time to pull a Woods BB840X, 7' rotary cutter where it will be loafing. EPTO will be useful here to save fuel and keep the revolutions down. Occassionally, I will put it on my Woods MDS1260 10.5' mounted rotary cutter where it will work harder and ePTO will not be used. EPTO is optional on this tractor, dealer installed, and expensive, but I specified it as I expect this to be the last big (for me) tractor that I buy.

The L6060 or 4066R will be used exclusively on a Woods BB720X (heavy) 6' cutter. Conditions will vary from light to very heavy and flat to very steep so opportunities to use ePTO to save fuel and revolutions will be much less common, limiting its usefulness. That said, it is standard equipment on the 4066R.

Agreed concerning the NE tests. Unfortunately, unless things have changed, Kubota does not submit their tractors for testing.

Also agreed concerning hour meters. Of course, the ultimate goal for me is to limit revolutions rather than "hours." I do no real farming and accumulate few hours on my tractors so never run out of warranty on hours but always elapsed time.

A word to the wise: Do not trust tractordata data.

I know you are wanting the highest HP available in this size, and I get it...

But I'll just say that my 1652 (tuned up a tad) is running somewhere between 40-44 PTO HP...

I have never run over something with my 6' hog that bogged it down, and I'm extremely liberal with what I will drive it over. Same with my twin blade 8'. I've burned up a slip clutch on one 6' hog, sheared plenty of shear pins on another, and nearly burned up a belt on the 8' Ford.

Point is, if your main concern is running a 6' hog, in my experience anyhow, anything over 40 PTO HP should suffice.

...

That said, I think the HST+ is a better feature to have than the ePTO.
