That's what I was thinking JoeG...
Sure I can get the deere for a few bucks more but no backhoe, but when the job is done, then what? I got a 25K lawnmower?!?!?!? (not that I would mind that :D), but I have to be practical too. The backhoe on this seems decent enough for me, especially later for putting up fencing, clearing/maintaining ditches and planting trees and stuff.

This thing (BX) seems to be the perfect size for my lot IF I didn't have the stumps to deal with. What I'm looking for is input that it will survive the job without blowing up or wearing the **** out of it. Basically I'm thinking it would have a hard (but not abusive) life for 2-3 years, then have the easy life doing less demanding chores.

That white car you see in one of my photos is 15 years old!!! You better believe that if I spend more on this than my car it better last me a good 20 years!!!

Homebrew...

I got a road already leading to the pit but it is a bit rough (but not that bad, I keep the weeds down with my garden tractor mower), first job for the new machine would be to level it smooth!

Anybody else go crazy when shopping for these things??? This is worse than looking for a car!!!!

He has one machine on the lot left and says the previous ones went fast! He says the 22k price is a combination of his sale and a kubota sale at the same time and only applies to the machine he has on the lot. He does not know when Kubota will take the sale away but at the end of November it may be a couple of thousand more than it is now IF kubota decides to drop the sale price. ????

OK no problem, I told him I can give him a BIG deposit if he can hold it until January (only six weeks away folks!). He hummed and hawed about this and decided against it.

I don't know anything about the warantee issues mention by this dealer but he is definately putting the "hard sell" on you. Makes me want to run, not walk, from him! "Buy it now cause they're going fast and I never know when the sale might end"? Please! Of course he wants you to buy now, he's three grand higher and he doesn't want you to find it cheaper! My answer to "take it or leave it" is almost always "leave it".

Good choice on the BX 24 btw, I think you'll be very happy.

Taiser -
1*>>> >>>...it's simply a question of "having the right tool for the job,"
2* I don't think you need to worry about a BX24 "not being enough"
3* the BX24 has the CAPABILITY you NEED (as time is not a factor) - at the price you are comfortable spending. Enough said!

Taiser,

I know it's easy for us to spend your money but... if money was not as big of an issue I would lean towards the B series and more specifically the B2630 or the B3030 based on your lot size and needs. 8 acres is a pretty big spread and it sounds like you have some fairly serious top work to complete. The BX series is a wonderful, proven and capable line but it IS limited for some heavier more involved applications. There's also the time factor. Smaller attachments and implements typically mean bigger jobs could take considerably longer. Only you know the size and scope of your project. If your planning on digging out larger stumps and completing it before your kids go to college I would consider the next frame size up. As stated earlier, it's better to overbuy a bit and do it once. My .02 cents.

Good Luck and BTW, wonderful spread.

TomK

P.S. I limited this post to Kubota but there are many capable machines in the frame sizes mentioned. Look around a bit.

Funny you should mention that Tomk :D

I just got over talking to a friend who has a friend who has a B series 7800. I went over there for a visit with him this weekend and got a good look at it. Impressive! Hydrostatic, good size loader (lifts over 1000#, well 760# at bucket center, still almost twice as much as the BX) and a bigger machine all around, but still not too massive. Good size motor (30hp). He got the machine for 20K with the loader. Backhoe is an option and costs about 8k and you can get a bigger version if you want. Not bad, nice to have more attachment choices, and this one seems to have them all.

I'm seriously thinking about this now. Getting the machine would crush my dreams of a backhoe but only for a year or so. Cash out some overtime next year and get the backhoe then :D! Think I may go this way, again seeing what kind of "deal" I can get from the dealer here.

I may still get the BX, but this could be a solid second choice, maybe even a first choice once I make up my mind. This is probably WAYYYYY overkill for my workload but I'll probably get a lot more stump pulling power out of this baby!! I'm gonna cry yet before all this decision making is over, I'm sure.

LOL, the B7800 is definitely a fine machine. It's the largest of the B's.
Now, since you're looking at the B7800 you've gotta check out the B2630 & B3030 too :D
They are the "premium" large B's and have the creature comforts the B7800 doesn't.
I would recommend that whichever way you go to get the BH at the same time, especially if you need it because it's mighty tough to drop 5-8k after the fact. And you may not get 0 financing on it either after the fact....
Course theres many ways to work around not having a BH, I did it fr yrs & yrs.
An FEL w/a toothbar can work out stumps, a potato plow (middle buster) can trench, a boom pole can lift extended loads etc etc.

I guess I shouldn't even mention the B3030 w/the heated and air conditioned cab, am/fm/cd sound system :D :D

Good luck. I went back & forth trying to decide between the BX2230 & B7510 and ended up w/a B23, go figure :D

LOL the B7800 is a great tractor I do most everything at just above idle too so it is never screaming at you, it’s a nice quiet machine. I am digging a pond with mine now and would be lost without it. I am in the same situation as you. I do my entire grass cutting with a cub cadet. I to had my heart set on a hoe. I looked and looked and looked. I went right by the BX, ground clearance killed that for me plus BH is not frame mounted. Looked at the 7510, 7610 for a while on that 1, then the 7800 & 3030. Went through the New Holland’s. The B7800 had the 4 cylinder and that did it for me. I think it is prettier than the 3030 but that is a personal choice. I figured I would get the tractor 1st as everything else is just an attachment and if I were you go buy that stuff over the line. Do yourself a big favor though get an ATI tach-all and tooth bar. I have come to realize that I do not need a back-hoe & I am so glad I didn't spend the money on it.

1*Love the BH on mine: wouldn't want a tractor without it.
A BH is real handy for a lot more stuff than JUST DIGGING DITCHES AND HOLES.
Makes an excellent power rake and a nice pry bar.
2*The stumps shouldn't be any problem.I dug out a very dense crop of 2 to 8'' trees on the 6/10 of an acre I grubbed last winter.
3*Cause it's more involved.

1*I would like to cut the tree down to a foot then use the tractor to push them over, or the back-hoe to dig them out a bit.
2*Getting rid of stumps is no problem. All that stuff is getting buried in the backyard pit. This is where the ground for my driveway was dug out and I have a good size pit to fill.
=========
1*Better make that about 4 feet or more cause you will need the leverage of the trunks to push them over with the tractor.
2*I to have a hole I could bury the 26 stumps i have left over from the grubbing project I did last winter. I am reluctant to do that as the stumps rotting out under ground might cause settleing/sinkholes later on there.
