Was in the local store, and it was one only, so sounds like the same price.

How did the rebate work? My closest Costco is about 75 miles, one way, from the ranch.

Lumen output is the most accurate way of measuring potential. Factors already mentioned such as the type of reflector, cleanliness, color temperature ( measured in Kelvins) can affect the perceived light value. IE: switching from a warm (yellow) light of 2,700K to a "whiter" 5,000K bulb can make it seems brighter. Most of those posting here posts are replacing an old T-12 light that is probably putting out 30-40% of it's original rating with a new, clean light and so less lumen rating seems brighter.

You previous post was absolutely spot on, it really comes down to "lumens per watt" a typical 100 watt incandescent bulb puts out 1,600 lumens (16 lumens per watt) a new Cree 18 watt daylight bulb will put out the same lumens (88/watt) as the old incandescent light at around 75% less power draw.

Recently I had to make a decision as to which lights to use for my new accessory building. After studying the light output and initial cost I belied that fluorescents was the best way to go. I installed 6 lamp T8-32 lights, the bulbs are rated at 3,400 initial / 3,100 mean lumens so the initial output is 106/watt whereas the mean is 96/watt. Only the most efficient and more expensive LEDs on the market can match or beat this. Now, one can argue that at some point down the road the LEDs will maintain more of their initial brightness than the fluorescents but I can't predict that outcome at this point.

My lights are 6-bulb metalux ho. They have the shiny mirror like reflector. Bulbs are t8 5000k.

I fear I will loose lighting going to led with almost half the lumens.

May have to test a few out. But 50% less power for 40% less light isn't gonna work for me

Try online if you haven't checked already. I know up here you can get certain deals online, that you can't in a Costco warehouse.

You have the most efficient shop lighting available, it will be a few years yet before the LED strips catch up.

I did quite a bit of testing before I replaced the 400 metal Halides in my 25,500 ft. Sq. industrial building and the T5's where the best light for my 24' ceilings. the T5"s can be a bit harsh at lower ceiling heights that is why I went with T8's for my 16" ceiling accessory building.

This one?? 4? LED Shop Light with Pull Chain, 2-pack

This is only one I can find on Costco.com site. How did you get $20 rebate?

Yes these are the ones I bought at Costco a couple days ago for $29 each. No instant rebate available. Note that this was the same price (after an instant rebate) for two replacement LED bulbs that fit into old T-12 fixtures. So I opted for the complete unit and now I have a surplus of fluorescent fixtures.

Instant rebates at Costco are shown on the price tag and rung up at the register... it's automatic. Not really a rebate but a temporary price reduction.

Oh, ok. Thanks. Web site shows $69 and change for two pack.

Any reason to think LED light fixtures being somewhat "electronic" might need some kind of simple, cheap surge protection or just not worth it?

/ LED Garage Lights #72
I hope the Costco ones work out for folks. I have 16 4ft fluorescent fixtures in the basement and just had my first one fail (ballast), so I'll be purchasing a bunch soon. I saw the ones at Costco and they are a good price, but I believe they are made by Feit and I have had horrible experience with other Feit products. Wonder how much lower prices will get in the next year or so?

Surge suppression is never a bad idea. Of course the lights have electronics. In fact a good whole house sure suppressor in your electrical load center is a good idea. I have one.

I've not had any problems yet with Feit brand.

Problem with the porcelain/plastic bulb holders is that they have no reflector (the painted white backing in a fluorescent troffer does a lot), lens, or diffuser and they are jammed up against the ceiling (often unpainted drywall or just framing in workshops, garages, basements, etc). I have upgraded several porcelain holders to a basic fixture with a reflector and diffuser, and it makes way more light from the same bulbs. Made me realize how lousy a bare bulb is when it's stuck right next to the ceiling. I think even if you could put a white painted board a few feet around the porcelain bulb holder it would have to help. A fixture with a diffuser or frosted globe would help even more.

I improved shop lighting once by cutting about a 1 1/4 inch hole in a cheap AL pie plate, sticking the light bulb through it, and screwing in the bulb. (Porcelain ceiling fixtures on the bottom of open trusses)

I like it... the words 'MacGyver' and 'Redneck' come to mind.

Even better if you ate the pie first.

Even better if you ate the pie first.

I thought of that but I didn't plan far enough ahead. I needed about a dozen at once for a friend's shop.
