LED Garage Lights

The problem I have with the COSTCO LED's from the B&M is the extra cost of the add on's. Last time I also bought 2 bags of walnuts, 2 large plastic totes, and a bag of pecans. AND I WAS BY MYSELF! If SWMBO had been along it would have cost at least $200 more, mainly in groceries.

Tell me about it... one time I went in for some contact lens cleaning fluid for my wife and came out with a trampoline.

Is that a T8 LED vs T12 Fluorescent? or a T5 LED vs a T8 Fluorescent?
I can see there is a big difference between T8-and T12 fluorescent.
Still cannot get over the lumens per watt of LED vs T8 fluorescent. Dont think there is much to gain going from T8-high output fluorescent with mirror reflector to a LED's
I have T8 bulbs in the barn (2 bulb "Cold Weather" fixtures from Lowes). Two of them about 15' apart in a 12x24 bay (middle section of a post and beam barn) are nowhere near as bright as 3 20w 6000k LED floods mounted ~14 feet apart in a 30x40 pole barn.
These are the floods: LE® 20W Super Bright Outdoor LED Flood Lights, 200W Halogen Bulb Equivalent, Waterproof, 1500lm, Daylight White, 6000K, Security Lights, Floodlight - - Amazon.com

The T8 bulbs are GE "Cool White" 4100k bulbs (2600 lumens each):

They light the barn up like so (one fixture ~10' behind the camera, one over the RTV):

For comparison, here is the light from 2 of the 20w LED fixtures (one is ~4' in from the car wall and 6' past the right edge of the picture, the other is ~8' behind the camera):

T12 Fluorescent, The LED tube says it is for T8 or T12 fixtures, but is the size of a T8.

Will you put them all on one switch or alternate?

Aaron, I wonder how the 20 watt LED lights would work to night light my flags on two 30' flag poles? They are supposed to be waterproof.

Do they have drop in 8' LED bulbs that you just rewire out the ballast?

/ LED Garage Lights #170
Commercial we wire just about everything with two switches to have some control of level of light.

Even the smaller offices will have 3 bulb fixtures with one switch controlling the center bulb and the other switch controlling the two outer bulbs... giving three levels of lighting from the same fixture.

My shop is 22 x 30... it has three switches when I bought it... right bay, left bay and one for the work bench... mostly I just use the one over the bench which is at the far gable end.

As a side note... there are many times I have wished the garage with 24 wide instead of 22... sometimes even 24 x 36

I use it to park and maintain two Model A Fords and two Model T Fords... so 4 cars and the bench.

I put my 30 x 48 barn on 4 switches, 12 lights. Well, i will when it's finished.....

I am not sure it will be focused enough, they are a pretty wide angle light. Two of the 10 watt versions (LE® 10W LED Flood Lights, LED Outdoor Lighting, 100W Halogen Bulb Equivalent, 700lm, Waterproof, 6000K Daylight White, LED Security Light, Floodlight, Pack of 3 Units - - Amazon.com) have a wider beam than 3 PAR38 floodlights.
They would probbaly work if you could mount them on the top.

Those look interesting but, not sure that 10 watt LED will give me enough light for flags 30' above the ground?

Has anyone tried using one of the Costco or Sam's fixture as a "plug-in" on a garage door opener? Our openers currently have a feeble incandescent that lights a little bit between the power head and the door, but the remaining 40 ft to the basement door stays quite dark. I was thinking of just using one of these

and plugging it in. Is the current draw of the LED fixtures in the same ballpark as an incandescent bulb or two? I once tried CFLs in a GDO, but the current draw was too low to properly cycle what was evidently a thermal timer circuit - the CFL never turned off!

I guess even if the current draw is very low, one of these

along with an incandescent would work.

I'm anxious to see my 24x30' workshop when I take out my 6 double 2' 1" flourescents and put in 8 costco LED fixtures. Should be coming soon/

Will you put them all on one switch or alternate?

Not sure if you are addressing me, but I plan on 2 switches and then the florescents I plan to reuse directly over the workbenches with another switch. Nice thing about the Costco lights is the pull chain so they can be shut off if all aren't needed.

I used two of the screw in plugins, ran extension cord to extend beyond the door edge, into a receptacle box to hold a LED spot light on each side of the door, which is very helpful lighting the shop while the door is open.

I switched everything out like I wanted to. Now it looks like an operating room a split second after I flip the switch. It is now a pleasure to step into the workshop.

I noticed that the latest Costco flyer has the Feit's on sale. IIRC, they were $23.99.

My two have been working awesome plugged into the GDO. I actually USE the "light" button on the opener remotes a lot now. Just the one LED shop light does a great job of providing enough light throughout the entire basement to safely navigate through. If I happen to accidentally leave one or both on all night, I don't really care.
