Oh yeah! The bay bridge. My friend's dad works for Caltrans as an engineer and has something to do with building that section. They have come a long way since it first started even though I think they are past the deadline.

Cool thing is, the Dad promised to give me and his son a tour when near completion before the grand opening! Its on my list along with a Police Ride Along with our neighbor. The City of San Francisco has some interesting police stories.

I worked on the estimate for the first phase, but retired before my company was awarded the contract. One billion, 316 million, and some change. I think they got the first 3-phases.

Oh God I hated working in the office, especially the main office! I'd much rather be out in the field with the guys.

Deereman! Very cool! I am glad you are liking the unit. Let me know if you get chance to post some pics. The StickWeld is a very popular model for us! With the special we ran, there will be a few more reviews up shortly!

I am hoping to get someone into a plasma cutter!

If you have another special like that I would be in a plasma

What were you responsible for while working there?

StickWeld 250 Review

Pro's:
At the Power Output of 250 Amps DC, it is a light weight and compact unit.
Awesome Duty Cycle ratings
Dinse connectors make changing polarity and adding a lead for more reach easy.
Copper contacts on the ground clamp

Con's:
Manual could be improved

Purchased to replace my stolen stick machine. The discount made it a great opportunity to get back my stick welding capabilities. Biggest problem, as with anything, I now want more stuff for it. As in 25' and 50' work leads, 160 amp whip, 50' of 8 gauge power cord, large selection of electrodes and a modified hand truck to tote it all around.

I wanted a handle for mine so I made me one. It slides into existing slots on the front and rear covers which required no modification to the machine. Material used was 1/8"x1-1/2" flat, 1/2" pipe and 3ea 1/8" 6011 rods. The flat bar needed to be ground thinner so it would easily slide into the cover slots.

I am a Happy Camper... much more welder than I needed!

Good review, glad your happy. I love my stickweld 250, I am going to burn a few more pounds of rods before I write my review.

FYI. When you go to buy those 50mm dinse fittings they're about $35.00 a piece! I suggest a cheaper way. Cut the leads that came on the machine about 18-inches to 2 feet from the male dinse fitting. Buy two female, and two male Tweco lead connectors. Should be able to buy a box of Tweco fittings cheaper than the dinse connectors. Here is a set for $13.01.

Here is a likely stupid question. What measurment is the 50mm. 50mm is 2 inches, and nothing on them (that I can see) is 2 inches. The ones on mine are 1/2 an inch in diameter.

Well in my defence the battery in the caliper was dead, so I had to go off the scale printed on the slide. Now that I think about it, I should have just got the one with the dial...

The ones I got for the PowerArc 200, I had to cut about 1/8 inch off in length to work.

I just cut the original cable in half and spliced in a new section. Used copper crimp splices and heat shrink tubing.

Ok one thing I cant figure out about this fancy new welder is what the arc force does. Does it make the arc more focused? Does it make it dig more? I am sure it would be much easier to set it if I knew what it did.

Arc Force, When turned up, Will allow you to push a 1/8 rod through 1/2" plate without sticking or going out. Or, It can keep the stick lit when you suddenly go out of possition like when welding around a pipe or other obstruction. At least on equipment that I am familiar with and own. I have laid a rod almost flat on it's side and not lost the arc due to Arc Force being turned up. Try it..

Ok that will help. I will try messing around with the arc force as soon as I can.

I have a Longevity plasma cutter that I bougt 3 or 4 years ago. I talked to Simon at length before I bought it and when I ordered it I had it in just a few days. It has performed flawless for this time I have had it. I had a problem with the gun after a couple years and was told to send it in. I boxed it up and had my wife send but she did not put Insurance on it and the mail system lost it. I call Longevity to check on it and was told they never recieved it. The person I talked to looked for it but it was never found so I told them I would have to buy a new gun. I was put on hold and when he returned he asked for my address and informed me that they were sending me one at no chaarge. I almost fell over. I thought what kind of company nowdays has service like that. I would buy from them again in the future if the need ever arises.
