Buying Advice Looking for a tractor

   / Looking for a tractor #51
Unless you dig holes for a living, I'd skip the backhoe. You'll never get enough use out of it to justify the cost. If you need a trench to run your downspouts or an electric line to your pool, rent a trencher. FEL on the other hand, I wouldn't want a tractor without one. You'll use it for everything imaginable from a wheelbarrow to a water tank.

If the OP is 50 or older, and wants a backhoe, he should GET a backhoe.
The older one gets, the less need to try to justify a backhoe....or anything else!

I wish that I had some pictures of the little CadPlan backhoe that I had, before I brought home my father's Woods 750. Then again it's probably good that I deleted them all, because nobody would believe the things I was able to do with that little thing. You won't rip stumps out of the ground; yet with a little patience I was able to dig stumps which my loader couldn't lift. My land had a grown in field when I bought it and I wanted to put in a vegetable garden. In the morning there were 25 foot tall birch trees; by evening I had a garden plot with corn, tomatoes, carrots, and a few other things planted. I even did the tilling with the hoe. When my 300 foot waterline developed a leak I didn't have to call somebody, or drive 50 miles to the nearest rental place; I dug it up and replaced the line.
As a friend said; "It sure beats a shovel!"
If the OP works for his money and wants a backhoe; then he should go buy a backhoe.
