Mark you driveway and road

I live on a rural road in a rural town. The electric company doesn't want a street address, they want the pole number. Even with the pole number, sometimes they still can't find the location. As for the ambulance crew, almost always they know the lay of the land better than you think. If you live at the end of a long driveway and call for an ambulance, fire truck, or any other emergency vehicle, you should try to have someone at the end of the driveway to show them the way. If they are responding with lights and siren (code 3) there is no doubt that you will hear them coming and they will not be looking for small house numbers on mailboxes. More than likely, they will ask how many miles from an intersection, or some other landmark to help them.

Well, I suppose it would be better not to have address numbers if you are hiding out from bill collectors or mad husbands, etc., but I am fortunant enough that I have lived my life in a way that I am not afraid to be found by anyone who comes looking for me.

Everything is relevant to the situation. In the area that I was referring to, there is only about four or five farms left in the township. The farmland is on a barely maintained road where it is over two miles to the nearest farmstead on a main road. It would serve no useful purpose to mark a farmstead where the barn has fallen down, the sheds have one or two walls left, the house has holes in the sides, the windows all gone, etc.

The objection that I have is to have someone make such broad based statements as if a property is not marked it does not deserve utilities. My utilities have legal addresses with section numbers, not street addresses.

For a Dumbdog, you are very smart and insightful. I agree with you fully. Some people are just "contrary" because they can be so and get away with it on an internet site. Others know how to get along in person and on the internet.

You're right. Everything is relevant. I have timberland in the Ozarks with no address and I can't even remember the section number unless I look it up but some of my suburban neighbors where I live outside New Orleans can't understand that because they have never been in an area like that.

1*How can you say that I do not deserve utilities to my property just because it is not marked?
My family has two quarters of land that is not marked. There is just one farm within a one mile radius of this land.
3*Should this land be marked?
There is no current farmstead on this place, just a bunch of dilapidated buildings. If we decided to put an irrigation pump on this property, you would deny me the right to earn a living on it just because the property is not marked.
5**Why someone may choose not to mark their property is their own choice.
