Max28 and cold Weather

   / Max28 and cold Weather #91
I have just read through this whole thread, I have a new 2555 hst. Tier 4 with 50hrs. It will not start when it is low 20's or below. I cycle the glow plugs 2-3 times. Battery does not last long either. I then have to put a 400w magnetic heater on the bottom of the block and a 100watt battery charger. Sometimes it takes over an hour to get it started. I just purchased a Zerostart yesterday hoping this will help. I don't think this problem is limited to the max28's. I also was thinking that my oil was to thick.

With the battery not lasting long does it still have the original battery in it and have you messed with the connections?

Your new tractor should start, at least down to below zero. See post #85

Our RTV900 started/ran just fine, but then!

And this PC is acting Flaky.

OK, The Earth's climate is going Flaky too!

Saturday -17F , wind Chill about -35F.
Today, 47 F , 60 Mph wind gusts. Very foggy.
That is a 60 F difference in 48 hours.

I think the Kubota RTV900 Hydraulic resevior vent lets moisture in the oil, and the system froze up. Equipment building is still about 30 F on the inside, and all the equipment is really sweating. That's not good, as the insides of the engine, etc collect water.

We went from -9 to 58 in the same time. That's 68 degrees in 48 hrs.

Same Battery, the tractor is less than 9 months old to me. Connections on the battery are clean. When it warms up some, I plan on checking the ground to the frame.

Definitely would clean the ground at the frame and start there.. iv had this solve numerous electrical issues.. from there the battery would be next.

Here is what i have been told. The diesel shutoff solenoid was not working consistently. It was not getting a full pull and motor was not getting fuel.

Max28 is home.

Statrted fine at Dealership this AM, course it was 35 F. Not much smoke on start-up, that is good sign. We are supposed to get some cold weather next week. Hope it passes the test.

I left mine outside last night on a trailer. I've been using it at another location this weekend, usually I put it back in the garage at night because it is cold-blooded but left it out last night. Both to test the cold start and because I was exhausted when I got home. Anyhow, this morning it was like 28, I cycled the glow plugs twice and put the throttle to about 1/4 and it fired up first time. I pushed the throttle back down as it started and it smoked pretty good but it didn't take 5 times with the glow plugs and throttle all the way down.

Just an update, All seems well, Seems to start better than it ever did. Spring is here now, but it started fine in the teens.

Any chance you can elaborate on this? Did the dealer determine solenoid defect was related to temperature, like because of the temperature the solenoid wasn't opening as much as it should? Or because of the colder air temperature more fuel was required to start then what the solenoid was allowing to feed?
