Any of you recognize these folks as your neighbors?

Yes the people in the boat are Gilligan and Mary Ann . My first choise would have been "Ginger" ! But that might be like saying Kioti or Kubota .......................

I'm going to agree with your wife,
how would he have know who the owners were.
As has been mentioned he did come over and introduce himself,
what else could you expect.
Some of these other answers sound to me like city folk that haven't become country,
or are just plain miserable.

Heck, I've had friends and neighbors of mine text me to let me know my garage addition project is looking great! How would they know, since it's not visible from the street? Well, they walked back there and looked.

I sure am glad I don't live around some of you transplants. Where I live in rural SC it's considered unkindly if you don't stop by if you're passing. Good grief. Maybe he is a nosy neighbor but I'm sure with your attitude you won't have to worry about him anymore. I built my shop and had a couple of friends come help me put the trusses on. All day long there was a stream of guys showing up to help. Most of them I really didn't know. Just friends of my friends.

Saw a neighbor outside in plain view working on his shed. Also noticed had had picked up a nice small single axle dump truck. I need rock and would rather pay a neighbor to haul it than some stranger. I walked up the long drive in plain view, broad daylight. Walked straight up to him, did not stray at all. He opened with a kind of snobbish 'Are you needing something?' Kind of took me off guard since I'd talked to the guy several times before about different things including just shooting the breeze. I mentioned the truck and asked if he'd be hauling rock for people. That seemed to settle him down and we talked for a while. He explained that he had just gotten the truck and was having some mechanical problems, but once he got it all straightened out, he'd be willing to do it.

That was close to a year ago. We've passed several times on the road and waved (as everyone here does), but he's never even made the slightest attempt to contact me about the rock hauling. I'm not about to bother him again either.

So I'm curious why you take that attitude? Are you afraid he will come steal something when you aren't home? What's the logic?

Why not?
If my neighbors pull up in the driveway and see that the vehicles are not home they are going to see whats going on as they turn around to leave.
Many times if you are not out and about they will not stop by so as not to disturb you.

Maybe I'm off base, give me your considered "country living" opinion.
Basic facts - we moved in 2 weeks ago, smallish place - 3 acres fully fenced
We need a horse barn for wife's minis but had to remove trees to erect it.
While watching the tree crew at work wife calls my attention to a guy that wanders onto our property and the barn work site. He talks with one of the crew then come over to introduce himself as a neighbor.
Now I maintain its polite and protocol to notice people who could be the owners (and we are, ie er are NOT renters) and introduce yourself _before_ talking with a work crew. Wife says I'm nuts.
What's your take on the situation!

Lighten up, Francis! If he told the workers to stop, I'd have a problem but at face value he was simply being friendly to the workers before coming to meet you, jeesh.

Most of the comments are way off base. It's good to remember that your freedom ends at the end of your nose.
