I bought this small trailer to haul the usual items, but wanted one that would convert to a flat-bed or allow for side-loading. The basic Karavan (home depot classic) allowed the sides to drop or be removed until I added wooden sides. I found some "Flag" or "Lift-Off" hinges on amazon and a couple of "toggle latch clamps" to allow the obstructed area to clear. I can now drop my sides in seconds again by pulling two pins and releasing the latches.

I always assume 5/4 board is for house decks, but I guess not when you are adding it as wooden sides to a trailer :)

Sure makes shoveling off that snow easy! Nice modification.

I have the same trailer (mine is 5'x10'). I've been debating adding sides. Your idea will probably get me moving to actually do so. What size latch and hinge did you use? Do you have links to them?

Just used the trailer for the first time and needed the drop-down. I went to pick up my 6' landplane. The FedEx guy said he wasn't going to be able to load it because it would crush the tailgate. I asked him if he needed me to drop the sides and he said they don't drop :) He was able to get right up to the trailer and side-load the massive landplane that was on a pallet.

Another guy walking back from lunch said "what... I have never seen that before"

I might have to do this other mod so I can have a poor man's dump trailer. This would make mulch and woodchips super easy to unload, and I already have one of the unloaders.
