Need to change input/output shaft direction

Most blowers require 180deg./ alternate. Had mine lined up on my Bercomac by mistake and it was noticeable.

Yes, 180 deg alternate is the proper way otherwise the fan get a too large a gulp or surge at each rotation and it gets worse with heavy wet snow.

As to front blowers, most are simply rear units adopted for front usage and designed for 550 RPM's.
SO since most front mounts are coupled to crankshaft output reduction and usually reversal is required.
The simple math is then to reverse and reduce either by chain and sprocket or by V belts.
To get the proper ratio divide engine RPM by 550 and start building a reduction 'box'.
Gears are probably best as chain/sprocket (or V belts) would also need some sort of tensioning system.

I run a blower commercially that was originally a 3pth unit which is now mounted to the front of the tractor. We use a #50 double chain as that was the only thing that would stand up - tried #60 and even #80 but until we went smaller with the double wide it wasn't reliable. My blower runs about 6-7hrs every time out and I usually get around 3yrs out of a chain

I mounted a rear mount 3ph blower onto the front of my tractor and in doing so I too had to reverse the pto direction. For 3 winters I tried the 3 sprocket and chain solution with a tensioner. The slack in the horizontal run of the chain could not be removed without bending something in the sprocket mounts or tensioning system. The slack also caused lash in the system and when the fan bounced back on forth within its lash it was at times quite violent (84" Farm King). I finally gave up a bought a PTO reverser gearbox and mounted it on my snow blower with the chain between the reverser and the input gear vertical. When I did this all my snow blowing troubles went away.

can you send me that old gear box? I've got a blower that needs a reducing reverser.

;-)

The old gearbox stays on the blower. The reverser gearbox goes in front of it.

There used to be a company that made pto reversers for the gray market tractors coming into this country. They weren't cheap. A friend bought a gray market Kubota and didn't want to buy the reverser, (and couldn't find one) so he proceeded to reverse some of the pto driven attachments that he owned. It wasn't as easy as you would think!

I'm the original poster here....I needed to reverse my input to get the blower fan to spin in the right direction....

Well we got our first real snow last night a quick 12" Nor'easter......Everything held up well....chain stayed on the sprockets and no one was injured or killed....

At the end of the hour or so I oiled up the chain and I touched the bearings....everything nice and cool....was a good day !!

I want to thank everybody for their input !!

Mike
