I agree with tkoza! Don't you own a Craftsman or an Agway for her to use? Like I've told my wife "you need some experience, you can't just jump on the biggest machine we own". After she dented the hood of the lawn mower, and bent the swing set leg, she hasn't bothered me about running the 2320.

What do you have?

My two personal airplanes are a cessna 172 XP 210 hp with amphibian floats and a dhc-2 turbine beaver also on amphibs. For the company I have everything from a 152 to citation x. Aviation is a tough business but it is a lot of fun. After 11000 hours flying, I still get the same exciting feeling walking out on the ramp.

For tractors, I have the 4210 and 455 at home and a 110tlb at the airport.

Scrappy you have committed a sin - you let your wife drive "your" tractor

you will suffer in purgatory until you buy a second tractor for yourself

I will relent myself with **** for the time being but will look into a larger 2000 series or 3000 series

My first house and I went straight to the 2320! She does have some experience though, she has mowed with my parent's 982 Cub Cadet.

OT, but the Cessna's I worked on in Vietnam (Army 0-1) had the 0-470 engine with a bit more HP than yours, but not all of them even had variable pitch props. The DeHaviland Beaver's I was trained on, but seldom worked on had the old R-980 P&W engines. All great fun, and I miss flying still sometimes though I was a mechanic, and not a pilot I did get a lot of stick time. The stick time was to give me incentive to tune those 0-470 engines, and especially the variable pitch props to give the pilot everything he could get when pulling up from a low speed flaps down smoke rocket run. Often the guys on the other end of the smoke rocket run usually didn't want us hanging around putting smoke down for the Navy jets to see, and 45-50 mph seems pretty slow by the time you get close enuough to fire. Here is one I mounted an M-60 machine gun on, and I thought you might enjoy.

Hink10: It's the first tractor that is the hardest to justify. After a few months or a year she will be saying something like "I wish you'd have told me all the great things this tractor could do for us, we'd have purchased one years earlier!". THEN she's ready for the upgrade bomb. A new 2520 is really just what you need now.
And, one word: Moissanite.

Yes, I'm sure she will see all of the benefits of this machine. In fact, I just received the pallet forks from Artillian (thanks Chris!) and the tractor should be here tomorrow. I have a basketball hoop to erect and I'm hoping to use the tractor to aid in the lifting of the 60" 3/8" glass backboard, it's pretty heavy. They recommend at least 4 helpers, I think a tractor and 1 helper may do.

I'm already a bit jealous of the bigger tractors, but this is plenty big for my property and use. I think the 2305 is the biggest I need for 1.5 acres in my sub-division. It has to be practical for my mowing needs.

I've never even owned a new car so a new $20K tractor has me giddy like a girl! I know I will want to take a "victory lap" around the neighborhood, but don't want boast. There are several unsold lots that aren't mowed very well, maybe I'll just cut along the road and clean it up a bit.

Yep, Moissanite, I believe I have browsed there in the past. I better start saving my extra change! I don't completely get the diamond thing. At least the tractor is functional. What would she say if I said I wanted a $20K tractor just to park in the front yard for decoration? Oh well, as I've said, she's waited patiently letting me get all of my "toys" so I guess it's her time and she well deserves it!

A 60" glass basketball backboard weighs just about 100lbs. The 2305 & forks are going to help you redefine "heavy." :) Just be careful when you start moving anything that's heavy for the 2305.

re: moissanite. My wife calls all such things "shiny rocks." All I've got to do is buy her a rare tomato and build a raised bed for her to grow it in.

I believe you are correct on the weight of the backboard, only heavy if trying to lift and bolt into place. I plan to ease into the lifting and testing the limits of the tractor. I can't afford to do something stupid, my wife may then fail to see the benefit of the tractor!

Great pictures! I know we are off topic but... I still use the 470''s in my cessna 180's. Although now they are IO-470's. Great engine that can take a beating and not chew cylinders! My beaver was a radial when I bought it. When the engine ran out I sent it to wipaire for the turbine conversion. It has a 750 shp Pratt and will cruise at 150 knots on floats... It is like flying a helicopter off the water...

Thank you again for the pictures and more importantly serving this great country!

With the sand on the firebase we were getting 250 -300 hours on the Cessna engines when serviced according to the book. I had the crew chiefs changet the oil every day, and we started turning engines in wtih 1200 hours on them.......

Funny thread. Most of us showing off our zippered spines.

Anyhow, we bought our tractor back when the wife was working (only way we could afford the payments), so she says it's HER tractor. I've kidded her back about "since I pay the house note" that she "can sleep in the dog kennel out back on her tractor."

Sorry for going off track on you. I have enjoyed the thread, and sure hope you get a chance to share that tractor some. If there isn't total accepance of it, at least it sounds like there is understanding, and that goes a long ways towards a happy household. Have fun with it. I was out in my woods with mine today puttering on my trails, and am so happy that I got past what the thing cost, and bought it anyway. You, and your wife will find the same thing.

I made sure I financed this one in my name only, I'm self-employed so I wasn't sure if I would have any problems. Once my wife found out her name wasn't going to be on the note, she eased up a bit. I pay the mortgage, my personal expenses, insurance, business expenses and now the tractor. My lovely wife, who makes more than I, pays for everything else. We've always kept our finances seperate. It's easier to keep track of things. It's also easier for me to by toys. She doesn't know about my new Artillian pallet forks or what they cost! :D As always, she will ask about them someday and as always, I just reply "I've had that for a long time". Don't know why that works, but it does.

It generally doesn't take long for everything to work itself out regarding my purchases. We all know the value of a machine like this and the wife will see it too, especially when I work on something she wants done. :) I've been so excited to get this thing I can't hardly concentrate! 4 weeks sure seems like a long time, I sure hope it shows up tomorrow, I have plans for the weekend!

That's why we have sheds and garages. Get it home during the day, put it in the shed, let it see the light of day a few months later. When she asks, point out something you already did with the toy - er, tool. Works every time.:D

Talked to the dealer this morning, the first thing he said was "are you getting excited". Well, I was posting to say it is coming this afternoon, but as I was writing this, my wife was on her way out and called me on her cell and told me the guy just pulled up! I just mowed a bit, the deck sounds great. I can't seem to get it to stay raised in the locked position. I'll have to look at it later. I also used the backhoe to dig my first scoop of earth. I have to say, it's pretty darn cool. I'm so excited I'm almost shaking, can't hardly wipe the smile off of my face! :D I have to run and get some fuel, they delivered it nearly empty, I was hoping for a full tank.

Unfortunately, I can't have a shed in my neighborhood, that would make it much easier! The tractor will be in the garage, but not much room for the implements.

There are a lot of threads here about the 2305 decks. Once they're set up, they work right with no problems. Setup can be a bit of a challenge. A few things to look for right away:

When the deck is fully raised, the position knob should be able to spin 360 degrees without hitting a stop. If it doesn't you need to lower the lift arms a bit.

The position knob should be perpendicular to the floorboards. If it's tilted you have a loose bolt underneath (you don't have to remove the floorboards) but it needs to be tightened.

The position knob should only be turned when the deck is fully raised. Raise the deck, set the knob, lower the deck. That's always the correct sequence.

Any questions, just ask. I just finished adding a 62C to a 2305 that had never been set up for mowing and went through the whole installation beginning to end, so it's fresh in my mind.
