New fuel can comments.

I learned that drilling a small hole in a high spot at the back of a plastic gas can, and then using wire to pull through a rubber tire valve stem, which you just leave the core out of and cap works perfectly to vent the can. I have spilled more gas trying to use the new safety cans than I ever did with old fashioned gas cans.

I never used to think that a gas can could ever become a prized possession. These new fuel cans probably cause more gas to be spilled into the environment than the old ones ever did because they are so functionally messed up.
Got that right!

I have heard that you can remove the spout from these and use them on almost any gas can.

These are often found next to the trash near the diesel pumps.

My orthopedic surgeon brother inlaw needs the trifecta spouts to keep from dumping gas all over everywhere. Anyone smart enough to think of another way probably does not.

It is against federal law to change these safety caps out but what they don't know won't hurt them. If ezpour wants to know what kind of can and how old it is make something up.
I believe most of these spouts are sold for use with water jugs. I guess some "water" is more flammable than others.

According to chatgpt AI, this is what it says.

No, it is not federally illegal to change the spout on a gas can, but there are EPA regulations that require newer gas cans (since 2009) to have spill-proof, self-sealing spouts to reduce emissions and prevent fuel spills.

What This Means for You:

• You can modify or replace the spout on a gas can for personal use, but if you remove the EPA-compliant spout, it may no longer meet federal environmental regulations.

• Selling or manufacturing non-compliant gas cans/spouts for commercial purposes could be a violation of EPA regulations.

Many people replace modern “no-spill” spouts with older-style vented ones for convenience, but this is technically not EPA-compliant. However, enforcement is mainly focused on manufacturers, not individuals.

This may also vary by state...supposedly in my state it's illegal to sell those spouts to use on jugs for flammable liquid hence the "water jug" notation. Of course, if the customer chooses to mis-use it, the store is off the hook.

I like the VP racing “not a fuel jug” jug for fuel.

I would be very disappointed if people didn't modify their fuel cans. It shows that we have more common sense than the EPA.
