I wouldn't really compare to an L3301/3901 -- the L2501 is actually much more like the older L3200/3800, in fact it shares some of the same exact parts as those older models if you browse through the catalog. Exhaust plumbing aside, those older models are more directly related.
My L3200 is pretty loud, louder than my B2920 was, but I wouldn't say it's too out of the ordinary.
BTW, that L2501 is a sleeper of a tractor. They kept it under the 26HP threshold simply by de-rating the max RPM. It's actually a larger displacement engine than the old 32HP L3200 has. At lower RPMs, I'd wager it's got almost as much pep as the old 37HP L3800.
I would say it's the tier 4 emission add ons that make the new tractors a bit quieter
Well I have the opportunity to trade up to a L3301. So what's ya'lls opinion.... spend another $3,000 and get a L3301 which is quieter or keep the L2501?
If I keep the L2501 I will have to do something with the exhaust. Possibly install a L3830 muffler.
The other issue is the L2501 really stinks... smells like a Ford diesel truck if you are familiar with those. Blah. Not sure if that will go away after it breaks in or not. When running at night you can see a fog of exhaust going past the headlights.
What would you do?
