@ $120,000 AU it is very expensive but there are quite a few of them getting around. I turn green every time I see one.

I just did some more research and it seems the top of the line starts at around $100,000 with the basic around $80,000 + on road costs (dealer fees and registration/insurance etc.

Too much for me to outlay at my age sad to say.
Enjoy your truck oosik. If I ever get over your way you can take me around the block in it.:)

I'll bet that will be a long ride. :)

The 3/4 tons have the old style column shifter. The 1/2 tons have the dial shifter which sucks in my opinion.

I hate electric function anything that was easily accomplished by a mechanical linkage. Someday you’ll be stuck with a knob that won’t shift into gear and near impossible trouble shooting. The mechanical linkage will probably never break and will definitely never be rodent food and is easily fixed if it does break. But on today’s vehicles that’s probably the least of your problems. I wouldn’t keep them around when they get old because the days of swapping a few fairly cheap parts and being on your way are over IMO.

Interesting that you should pick up on the mechanical linkage thing - 4570Man. My Jeep TJ has mechanical 4WD linkage. My Ford F-150 has electric over vacuum activated 4WD. One time, while schmoozing down the driveway, I got to the county road. It was unplowed and had an ice underlayer on the asphalt, to boot. Soooo - I twisted the knob in the pickup to activate 4WD.

Nothing.

Water from a puddle, in the driveway, had splashed up and instantly frozen around the vacuum activation cylinder/rod/assembly. By the time I had traveled five miles it was working again. But if I had needed 4WD right then - zero.

A testament to modern technology.

Back in the day, when I belonged to the 4WD club - mechanical linkage was the only way. If we would have had to rely on any type of vacuum or electrical activation - life could have become very difficult. Right away.

GM and Dodge had problems when they first started using vacuum to engage their front axle. I couldn't guess how many times I engaged 4wd on my '91 Dakota, only to find that it was frozen and I was )literally) stuck in 2WD. I finally smartened up, engaged it with my air compressor and plugged the lines so that it was always engaged. A colleague spent the night in the woods because when he switched from 4H to 4L the front end disengaged and wouldn't go back in.

GM has the worst drive by wire; anything takes longer, whether it's acceleration after stepping on the gas or shifting gears. I've acquired the bad habit of shifting into drive while still moving backward. When I get into my Ranger I have to remember to drive di.fferently

One "tool"that I keep in my newer Ram is a code reader, if I get a check engine light I can read and if desired reset the code.

Many functions will not work with a CEL on, and it may even go into a limp mode which restricts
power and rpm.
Ditto.

My teen daughter was kind enough to fill the gas tank of our Outback 3.6R. This car has adaptive cruise control and the EyeSight system for lane departure warning, smart cruise, etc.*

She called me half an hour later with all kinds of lights in the dash, and cruise control would not work. Brought it home and the code said, Evaporative control overflow or something like that.

GIS and it took me to a Subaru forum that explained the probable cause - a loose gas cap! Sure enough, cleared the code, checked the gas cap and it was loose.

Congratulations on the new truck! It sounds great!

FWIW - RAm has the best looking front end on the road right now.

Not just the front end, people I know that have Rams love their trucks, including the 23 mpg they are getting with them.

I wonder how long before the government mandates that this (IMHO) crap can not be turned off/disabled? I really, really dislike having a vehicle telling me how to drive, and at minimum beeping at me when I don't do what it thinks I should.

I found that the tire pressure monitoring system is gov mandated on the PW. Got the same on my motorcycle. Worthless - if you don't keep track of tire pressure, you probably don't monitor your engine oil either. A lot of folks are going to do a whole lot better in driverless autos. The driverless auto will do fine as long as there is a place to plug in their cell phones or other electronic devices.

I can turn off the air bags in my 2006 Jeep TJ. That's an important feature if you do much off-roading.

All the communication devices, etc will not be used on the new PW. H**L, I never take my cell phone with me when I leave the house. That's probably why I had no idea what Apple Car play or the four SiriusXM features are all about.

Now I know what an engine with MDS is all about. I thought it had something to do with monosodium glutamate.

Hey - I'm still struggling with the analog age. Digital is a lot of smoke and mirrors.

And the salesman wondered why I was concerned if the Warn winch had remote control or corded control handle. Have you ever seen what can happen when a winch line snaps? That's why you ALWAYS throw an old wool blanket over the winch line on a pull.

Oh, I'll get there. The learning curve is gonna be almost vertical though.
