If I decided to pursue a hydrolic cooler, where should I chase one down? Would this be a modification that would affect the warenty?

My wife isn't convinced, yet, that this was a good purchase. I think she'll even be more weary if I start making modifications... but it may come down to that or odd looks for frequent breaks to let 'er cool down!

<font color="red"> As an aside, the 1845 is oil cooled and the instrument package includes a temperature sensor for the engine oil. That typically runs about 180.

Wow! Cool! Way cool! My 1845 has never run anywhere near that cool. I wonder what might account for the difference. I've finally succeeded in keeping the engine cooler clean enough to run continously without hopping off every 2 minutes to clear the chaff off the screen while mowing to keep the alarm from going off. (At least I think I have - testing continues - details to follow if I succeeded /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ) Even so it's probably still running 230-235 degrees.

Charlie, how are you making out with your cooling problem? Did you try the revolving filter?

My 422 fan comes on after about 20 minutes of mowing in this hot weather (80+ degrees). After mowing continuously for 2 hours the hydraulic tank is hot to the touch, but not so hot that you cannot hold your hand on it for 5 seconds.

Ernemats,
I forgot, do you have the 48" or 60" mower? I have the 60".

I just mowed 5 pastures Saturday with the PT1845 and the wing mower. It took a little over 5 hours, with breaks only to get from one to the other. The temp ran over 200 the whole time. I brushed off the insect screen 5 or 6 times. I still have it duct taped over all the expanded metal. It accumulates chaff only in the circle at the fan.
It wasn't very hot, maybe 75, and it was damp, so there was little chaff.
I've had the centrigugal filter for a year plus, but never yet had it out of the box.
I've not seen temperatures under 200, even in uses other than mowing, except part throttle short time jobs.

A few come to mind:
Larger cooler or another one in series stacked ontop of the other one.

Larger fan

Add finned heat sinks and a small fan
to the tank. Where you would get these inexpensivly, I'm not sure.

You might try one of these sites:
Hydraulic Supply Co.

Specialists in Heat Exchange (S.H.E.)

The second one is a U.K. firm, but they have a good background info section, and describe the designs/types of coolers available. The wire-wound tube type appear to be quite small and effective for their size.

Hope that's of help.

Grainger has them but they are about $130-150 without a fan.

Surplus Center has them but there online listing are either too big or too small. Their catilog has one item 9-5786 for $69 that would be the right size its 19 x 1.5 x 8.75.
