If you dont mind me asking, what did the 16' run you.

A normal steel car hauler has a typical GVWR of 7000. It is a product of the very available (cheap) 3500 lb axle. The benefit of this trailer is that the aluminum is lighter than steel. For every pound this trailer weighs less than a steel one, you have another pound of cargo capacity. Plus it won't rust and looks all shiny.

Are the side rails removable to allow you to load and unload items with a set of forks?

No the sides are not removable as its the landscape style. That would be a nice feature for some things, but I am used to this style and don't mind.
