Off road dump trailer options

Has anyone used a CAM Woodsman? They are not made anymore, but they seemed like nice trailers for use in the woods behind a compact tractor.

Ya, it was leaning up on a 200 dollar rotary cutter !

OK, picked it up yesterday, for about US$1300 before tax.

I may follow suit -- if your review is favorable. Any chance it can be easily converted to hydraulic dump?

Gordon -

Nice work on the hitch modifications. It reminds me that I really need to work on my welding skills.

I find I seldom use the drawbar on my tractor for just that reason. I end up using a draw bar that goes between the lower 3 Pt hitch arms.

I do hope you and Piston will keep us up to date on how your Provnost trailers are working out.

I'm still nosing around for a solution that will work for me. I'd love to find something that is 4' (or maybe 5' max at it's widest point) and maybe 8' long that is rugged enough and has good ground clearance for use in the woods, but is still street legal. I don't have to go far or fast (typically less than 5 miles on roads with speed limits ranging from 30-40 mph). I typically just take my unregistered, non-dumping trailer out on the back roads and hope no one stops me. (I suppose I could make the argument that I'm legal since I have the SMV triangle, and it's "ag business", since the USDA considers forestry a type of agriculture, but I doubt I'll win that argument if it comes down to it)

As soon as I get some use on mine I will update with my thoughts. I've been away since I bought the trailer, so it's just sitting there mad at me for not using it.

I'm interested in that as well. The website did not say.

Has anyone looked at or used one of these? They come in wagon or trailer form. You can add a hydraulic piston.

They told me when I picked it up that some people put electric dumps on them, so I imagine you could put a hydraulic dump as well. Give them a call and see what they say! They are very nice people and very helpful.

Northern tool has those brought in from Canada from a company called Millside. They are weak at the hinge point and bend pretty easily. They copied a design made by Country Manufacturing who used to sell to Northern, but they cheapened the design quite a bit. Compact Tractor Wagons and Tandem Axle Utility Trailers 2 ton Capacity by Country MFG.

OK, picked it up yesterday, for about US$1300 before tax. Here is how far I have gotten in assembling it. <img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=476636"/> Hey, at least it made it into the bed of the pick up truck!

Ok, tonight I started the assembly of my new Woodland Mills trailer.

First, remove the cardboard box, exposing the parts all nestled in the steel crate:

Step 2: take out all the parts (a lot of which felt quite heavy):

Nice galvanized steel trailer bed! (Will definitely need help getting it off the truck and onto the frame after I assemble the frame.

Partially assembled wheel sections. Note that each side will be on it's own stub axle - no long axle between them, since the bottom of the trailer bed is so low. (Edit: No, it is so that the two sides can pivot independently.)

OK, enough work for one evening. More tomorrow.

Mounting on this stub axles is one of the advantages of the walking arm suspension. It leaves you more ground clearance than a through-axle would.

I'm curious what you think of the stub axle attach points and the frame strength in that area. I've never seen one of these trailers in person, but a possible downside of the stub-axle mounting is that they can bend if the mounting point is not robust enough.

OK, it is tomorrow now. Finished most of the frame. Now I just have to get that 200 pound steel dump box down off the pick up truck and onto the trailer frame.

The fact that the stub passes through the frame is good. I've seen some where they were just butt-welded onto the frame. The frame looks stout enough to avoid getting twisted by the load (especially when you consider that it's just one of 4 wheels supporting a trailer with up to 2000# of payload.

How does it look where the walking arm attaches to the main trailer frame?
