The gravel was leveled and tamped in the carport area.

It sure didn't look like that when I brought it to ya! Karen did a wonderful job reconditioning it:eek: .......didn't she? :D Good job on the concrete for it to...looks like a perfect fit. Are you going to gravel all the way to the gate? Coming up Fri to finish the wellhouse -- and hope to spend time with kids that are coming up.

The last several days I have been getting things ready to quickly put up a temporary fence around the house and carport

Yeah, that's a good looking cattle guard, but won't do much good without a fence, will it?

:D :D hey it looks good .... you expect it to work too....:p :D ..... kinda looks like a bridge built over dirt before they reroute a river under it don't it? (They actually did that years ago in Brazoria county where Dow wanted to build a plant and they rerouted the river // bayou? and built the bridge first)

Yep Bird, a cattle guard without a fence is just metal in the field.
So I threw up the recycled - recycled cedar fence again and the cows are enjoying the grass on the hill.

I repaired the corner and imperfections around the base of the slab with concrete patch repair. It worked good, I had about 5 minutes from each batch before it hardened.

I also put fill dirt around the slab. I got the sand from one of my ponds I have been wanting to make bigger.

Today I had 6 hours of seat time and at the end of the day we had a nice shower and a rainbow. What a Day!:)

Harvey, I will pick up some windows and doors and start framing.
Oh, where should I start?

Harvey I will be asking the question several days before I need an answer so if you can't respond for a couple of days that's all right.

1. Any preference on the type or size windows?
2. What should be the height measurements on the 3 wall purlins?

Don, you're having entirely too much fun in retirement. I wish you were up here helping with the walkway, just so I could watch someone enjoy the work as much as I do.

One of the great pleasures in life is passing on a passion for work to your offspring. When my son was young he had no interest in what I did nor how I did it. Then at thirty two he moved back out here from California. He's been working with me occasionally.

Yesterday when we were in the truck on the way home his comments made me think he's starting to get it. Poor kid. : > )

On your doors I'd go with the metal clad exterior door from HD that goes for about a hundred dollars. They're prehung and you can get left or right hand (hinge side).

I'd stand at your proposed door way and consider the worst possible circumstances, say it's raining cats and dogs and Karen's upset for some reason or another. Now which side would you want the door to have the hinges? Also consider how you're going to lay out the inside of your storage room. Place the door opening where it will work with that plan.

I'd go with just price on the windows unless you think someday the storage room might be your apartment (raining cats and dogs, Karen's upset).

Boy howdy do I know that one. My son's couldn't really give a hoot about what I do to maintain the place. At 14 and 21 they don't seem to have much interest in it at all. I just got the youngest to mow a field with the lawn tractor and he liked that, while he was doing it. But only once it seems. I can force them but then they don't bother to learn anything from it... I keep telling them that this is all very usefull knowlege and skills. I wonder when my kids will "get it"?

it's unfortunate - but some never do. From my experience I have come to the conclusion that everybody has an age they mature to then stop forever. Some never get past their teens .... I believe I stopped at about 33 .... now if my brain would just stop writing those checks that my old body can't cash:eek:

Hmmmmm, I'll bet you didn't get it at that age either. ; >(

Seriously, some day they'll look back at those times as the "the good old days" and how glad they are that dad forced the issue.

The best way I know of to get good work out of people is to make them part of the solution, give them ownership. Then it goes from being work work to accomplishing a goal.
