PJ Trailers

Your original question was about PJ Trailers in general...
It's been my observation that here in the Northeast PJ Trailers have a real problem with their paint peeling in sheets quite badly. Otherwise they appear to be a well-built trailer.

My opinion this their powder coating just doesn't hold up here. Once the corrosion gets under the powder coat it just comes off in sheets. Automotive paint and primer is a much better combo.

OK, a bit of embarrassment here. It's not PJ, but Sure-Trac...

This is the model I'm looking at:
Sure-Trac | Tilt Bed Equipment - Sure-Trac 10K, 16+4

I can’t speak on the quality of sure-trac, but that is a beauty of a style. That currently would suit my needs the best. One thing that makes me hesitant with gravity or electric tilt is my cold weather. I’m not sure how the hydraulic systems will work at -40 in the winter.

Parts of me want a 16K gooseneck but I don’t haul anything requiring one.

When considering a new one I looked closely at sure-track dump trailers. I would've either bought a Cam Superline or Sure-track.

I don’t advise buying a trailer that’s gross overkill for the load. I’ve got a 10 ton gooseneck which is required to pull my backhoe but I don’t like to use it unless required. It pulls hard, turns wide and weighs twice as much as a lighter duty trailer.

I also am not a fan of the powder coating that comes off in sheets because it rusts underneath. I think a good rust preventative paint put on with a brush is better here.

I'm not looking at PJ now, but did notice that they offer powder coat by default, but optional Primer + Powder Coat.

I won't be using this trailer too often, and hope to store it indoors, so longevity of the finish is probably not as important to me as to others, but it's definitely a consideration.

Understood, and agree. Additionally, I have a very steep approach angle to both my regular driveway as well as my second entrance. I do have a relatively flat entrance available, but it's a few hundred yards away, and no real "road" to the main part of the property. I think a slightly heavier than needed capacity, in the length that I need, is the way to go.

Lots of good advice here, thanks all. Will certainly be checking back in and let you know my final decision.

I know this is a bit late, but I weighed my B3000 TLB this summer, and it came in at 4760 lbs - much heavier than I was expecting. I have loaded rear tires, and did a dynamat soundproofing project years back, but can't imagine that added even 100 lbs.

I also had calculated around 3600 lbs based on information I found online, so some part(s) of that info I found was definitely wrong.

FYI, I have an 18' bumper pull (16+2), and it is definitely on the short side. I've also removed the subframe extension plates to pull the backhoe in 9" closer to the machine, so I'd recommend nothing shorter than 20', but if you want to throw another implement on the trailer along with the TLB setup, I'd say 24' minimum.
