I didn't think so but the sealer I used was a "curer-sealer" that was supposed to be applied during the curing process

I got this from a quick google search

"Membrane Curing
The most common way to cure new concrete is through a liquid membrane-forming curing compound also known as "cure and seal". These materials are usually sprayed or rolled on the surface. When dry, they form a thin film which restricts moisture evaporation from the surface."

For slabs poured in the hot summer sun I hung out for several hours (till sunset) after the finishing crew left and sprayed lots of water on the slab to reduce cracking. Of course, there was no roof to shade the slab. Had there been it wold have been less critical.

Nice building! I can only dream.
In the pic of the shed rafter detail, on the inboard end I would add some hangers?

Even though they've been notched to have about 2" sitting on top of the plate? In the days before metal strap hangers (i.e. quick) this is the way barns were built...

When you get completed could you give us a breakdown of the costs associated with the construction. That's a great looking barn. I love the size and dimensions. It will serve you and your family well for many generations. I hope to build something very similiar in the very near future.

I'm not an engineer, so all I have to go on is experiance and gut feeling.

Those look like 2x12's. but they are notched about 2/3s? So in reality all that is supporting the load is a 2x4. Now there are toe nails in the lower portion that help.

My gut tells me that if there is ever a huge snow load the 2x12s could crack and fail.

Instead of hangers you could screw a 2x4 ledger along the bottom of the 2x's and the "header".

I'm not there, so dont take my word. But you might want to ask someone else for an opinion.:)
Cheers, Tim

Those notches on the 2 x 12's are just a bonus. Most builders would have taken the time for that and just cut them and attached them. They wont go anywhere as they are held in place by the angle of the cut and the way it all fits together. What you see there is the sign of a builder who takes ALLOT of pride in his work, knows ALLOT of what he's doing and is willing to spend the extra time to do it RIGHT.

It's probably the most impressive and well built pole barn I've ever seen.

Tim. Don't feel like the lone ranger, at first glance I had visions of the top portion of the boards spliotting under load. Load is the key. I'm not the expert Eddie is and I had to actually think about it to feel comfortable about the load. Difference is I had to think vector analysis not having decades of experience.

Out of my ignorance I would have put a cleat under the boards where they attach. When I am not sure I tend to overbuild. Most of what I do is overbuilt! ;)
