Glenn,
No doubt in the world you and your wife will kick yourselves for going smaller. Even if you go bigger you will wish you had gone even bigger. There is never enough room in a polebarn. Everytime I build one I wind up building another one and saying the next one I will build big enough and then think I can get by with smaller. Build bigger, you won't be sorry.

Heehaw:

Definetly like the price. Can you pass on the company name, phone and website?

Thanks!

HeeHaw, is that just materials or completely built? That seems like a good price. I got a materials quote from Menards for a 32X48X16 of around $9K. That included a few windows and 16' sliders on each side.

Thanks HeeHaw. That's a pretty good deal on a built barn. I checked their site and they don't do Michigan. Just as well, I haven't found the money for that yet anyway /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Well, if they don't do Michigan, I don't think they will do NY.

Now it looks like we may be looking for a nicer looking building. Since where we were going to put the barn, is now a pond, we are looking to move it at the front of the property, near the road. We are thinking a barn style, or a railroad type style. The town we are in was a railroad town at the turn of the century, so I think it will fit in.

Paul, we almost bought a parcel of property that had a long abandon railroad bed through it. I had visions of an old fashioned railroad station as a barn. I like your thinking.

We're now after an old fashioned looking barn. 18-20 foot high sidewalls with 8/12 pitch roof.

Our township zoning requires outbuildings to be behind the house. Better check yours before you get too far along.

Rob:

I never thought about zoning specifying where it could be installed. Since we are zoned agricultural I think we may have a little more leeway than residential. Not to mention we do not have a house yet! When I called the building inspector about installing a barn the only thing he mentioned was that we needed a 50' setback from all property lines. Another problem is our lot is pie shaped; 323' road frontage tapering down to nothing. The other area that we considered (behind the new found pond) is only 109' wide which means we could install a 9' wide barn which tapered to a point LOL! Not much sense in that!
