You have our thoughts and prayers. Don't be timid or too proud to accept the help that's offered by those around you. It's a tough road, but the support of friends and family will help to pull you through it. It's common with todays treatments to have surgery, chemo AND radiation. It doesn't mean things are grim, it just means your getting the best and most aggressive treatment right from the start.

Mornin pjw,
Your wife and family are in our prayers ! My oldest boy was diagnosed with cancer while he was a freshman in college. We were also devestated, but he made it through chemo and he has graduated college and living a productive life. Take it one day at a time, and you will make it through this crisis.

Don't allow fear to grip you over this. As many have stated, there is light at the end of this tunnel, this fight is more than winable. Being a cancer survivor also, I know the shock you are experiencing, but mine was over twenty years ago, and I'm still here. The cancer research has come very far from 20 years ago, and I'm postive your wife will make it through all of this with your support. The chemo, and radiation treatments are more targeted now that the "shotgun" blasting of decades gone by. If you need any additional info, please go to the NIH website, that's the National Institutes of Health. www.nih.gov, they maybe able to offer any additional information about your wife's particular cancer treatment. Don't hesitate to call the CancerResearch Center, either at Frederick, MD. or Bethesda, MD, and talk with the Research Specialist in your particular case. Above all, don't panic, I know you had to sit down after hearing the news, but find out as much as you can, and follow through with the treatments. The days of cancer being a death sentence are over. Lance Armstrong at one point had a 50/50 chance, when the cancer spread to his brain. He came back to win 7 Tour De Frances.

I Just stumbled across this thread. Cancer is scary, surgery is no fun. I have had 3 operations in a 6 month period, all within the last year, and three rounds of chemo. Started on my 28th birthday finished the end of April this year. I am feeling quite well now.

I have learned a few things. One, prayer is effective. Two cancer is not a death sentence, Being around cancer patients can be positive, I don't know how many times during chemo we would joke and visit.

Thank all of you for your concern. This is the foirst time I have been on the board for a loooong time. Lots of water under the bridge since I posted in the dark, early days of this journey. Annette had four sessions of adriamycin and cytoxin chemo pre-op, modified radical masectomy, and we have our fourth and final post-op chemo temorrow (taxotere). Annette is to have 33 sessions of radiation over six and a half weeks. She has been officially designated to be cancer free. We are cautiously optimistic. I have written about twenty poems through this journey and will post them if any are interested. We had much to be thankful about on Thanksgiving and find that every day has alittle more meaning. Looking forward to Christmas with the kids and many more to come. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Sorry I have been gone so long- computer crashed and had to switch password, which I still do not remember. Also, have had alot on our minds. Once again, thank you and
God Bless,
Pat
