Problems posting pictures

I am a novice with a digital camera, however I have sent pictures over E-Mail. When I try to post it says my file is to big I can buy that but how do you make it smaller? I tried to reduce the resolution and amount of color maybe I just need a course in picture posting. The camera is an Agfa, just a very basic 2x camera. The download is "photo wise" Any suggestions? JM III have at it.
