So many things affect the life of oil, mainly your driving conditions. I remember doing 3,000 mile oil changes religiously. Got busy, drove 8,500 miles. Checked the oil, but did not do an analysis. I could still see thru the oil on the dipstick. I backed way off on my changes. And your engine is not a closed container, it see's air (with moisture) and it see's fuel.
A lot of things go into those oil anylisers built into your car.
oils are better, your car doesn't dump fuel into the oil like it used to, ect. I would think if the recommended change is 10K and you do the oil at 5 and the filter at 10, you would be fine. Most of my equipment I do annually, my daily driven truck being the exception.
