Resharpen or Replace

When I sharpen my blades, I balance them the old school way, drive a nail into a stud and hang the blade on it. grind a little off whichever side is heavy until balanced.

The first thing I do is blade clamped in vice upside down and hit the backside with 9" grinder lightly so that it's smooth and flat. Then sharpen on bench grinder. It doesn't take much and I probably sharpen at least 30x before replacing. I don't remove much at all each time but it sure cuts great when razor sharp. Then stack together to be sure one isn't bent...if so straighten. Then check balance.
They're mostly in balance since I don't grind much off.

I agree! Wire brush wheel on a drill to clean it. And then a quick run on the bench grinder to sharpen it. Doesn't take much and razor sharp. Open field so I never hit anything to bend the blades and I'm able to Keep them straight also. Very little curve end wear. Mentioned it before. The high lift bend is what wears the most and not much you can do to prevent it either. I don't Balance them since the wear is even on all 3 not like a side dish charge. Takes a few minutes on a rear PTO Mower. Mid mount your lifting the mower or removing it.
