Getting ready to buy a 5' scraper blade(Countyline) from Tractor Supply. For light duty work, is there any other brand I should consider. Thanks.

I often see Land Pride and Woods as the two most popular brand. I have a Buhler 30 (6') and I like it!

One word of advice, buy the heaviest duty blade you can afford. Scraping snow is not light duty! Unless you are just going to be scrapping up sawdust or wood chips, you better have a good welder! I went the cheap, light duty blade way for a few years and found myself constantly fixing, welding and replacing bent parts. I finally got a Land Pride Medium duty blade and with the extra weight and strength, I have no problems plowing snow, scraping roads, and just about any reasonable scraping job. Its one of those "pay a little more now or pay lots more later" things.

Ken, looks like we went through similar experiences with our rear blades. :( My dealer sold me a medium duty blade that just did not hold up to my tractor. I ended up purchasing a Land Pride RBT45108. Now this is a great rear blade.:D Which LP blade did you end up buying?

The blue MidWest blade was the blade that did not hold up. It was a good mid range blade, just not up to the task for me though.

I am just learning about rear blades and so far 2 things have become very clear:

-get a heavy one as stated
-get one that is wider than the rear end of the tractor

I have borrowed one to test it and it is awesome. You won't be disappointed.

I had a TSC 7' back blade on my old Oliver Super 55, It did work great for light duty chores. But one time when I got into some heavy duty grading, I caught a rather large bolder on end of blade, that caused the blade frame to be bent. I now have a heavy duty Land Pride that is built like a tank, heaver all the way around. My advice would be buy the heaviest one you can afford, look at the future, you'll probally never have to buy another.

XCSM, As others have said, buy the heaviest one built that you can afford. also make sure it will at least swivel 360. Would be nice to tilt, and offset is a plus. Make sure you don't buy one to long, so that it will swivel without hitting tractor. Didn't say what your use would be, but I use my blade swiveled 180 as much as I use it in the forward position. Many good buys for 5 ft on Craig s list or similar. Post pictures when you find one. Good luck.

I have a similar question. I have found an older JD 95 7" scraper. It appeard heavy duty and adjusts two ways. The guy wants $500 for it. No hydraulics, but could be added. What do you guys think about the price?

acausey1,
Depends on your area. If it is in good shape, may be fair price. 7ft are harder to find arround my area and are higher. Try to find out how the blade has been used, and what it was pulled with. Not much you can do to these blades, unless it is bent. If it is it will be obvious, and I would look for a different blade. All other things like blade tip can be replaced if necessary. You can always offer them less, but if it is in good shape, go for it.

That does sound like a fair price the the JD95 blade, assuming it is in good usable shape. Make him a fair offer.

Check out Monroe Tufline.I have one of their 6 footers and it is great.Very well built, and I have never had any problems with it.It has one of the best offset features I have ever seen. The cost when I bought mine was about the middle of the road.I thought it was the best value for a dollar.

Remember you get what you pay for.I would look at a woods, landpride or the heavy duty King kutter.coobie

I have made numerous post on this subject, today I spoke with a Kubota engineer at their headquarters in Ca.His advice on a rear blade for a Kubota B7800 was a 5' standard duty for this particular model. Their reasoning is potential damage to the 3 point hitch "all 3 pt components" right from the horses mouth. Without first hand experience I am still a bit confused. Maybe compatability is the key word ??
