If its 2wd there's no parking brake after the rear tires leave the ground. The rig is free to roll anywhere.

Here's a picture of a friend's 7K trailer after he loaded up with firewood at my place. His tow vehicle is a 2008 Toyota Sequoia rated for a bit over a 10K trailer. A few months later I asked him "what brake controller do you have in your Sequoia?" His response "oh, the factory brake controller....just push "tow/haul" and you're good." He was a little surprised when I told him Toyota doesn't offer a brake controller for the Sequoia or Tundra yet (I have a 2007 Tundra) and the tow/haul button just changes the transmission shift points. So, no brakes on the trailer prior to a 50mi drive home...wonder what it weighed (pretty wet Ash mostly)?

Saw this guy doing 75-80mph in the left lane with a big pile of twisted copper tubing in the bed...bouncing up and down with each bump, and not a single strap on it. Needless to say, I stayed away from him!

I don't have a picture. however I drug a old 1950,s ford school bus from near the Missouri border about 25 miles to my place. hilly roads. and the bus had the engine trans ect. My little 3/4 ton 64 chevy wrecker was able to lift the front wheels of the bus about 4 inches clear of the ground. However when I tried to move it popped wheelies. S I lowered the tow sling until the bus front tires could roll and slowly drove home. no incident & rural back roads not hardly any traffic.

My guess is that, including the trailer weight, that's well over 10K on a a 7K trailer. I have a similar trailer and feel like it's heavy with half that much wood.

While white knuckle driving and hauling this load on an interstate a trooper asked me if I want to get it weighed and I told him I would at home and he told me I needed electric brakes also. Luckily he just gave me a warning. I got home and scaled it and the whole works was 23,700 about. After 4 loads (smaller loads though) and with minimal brakes I got it done, but had to replace both axles. The last load caused one axle to bend down in the middle about 3 inches or so. In hindsight, if this trailer would have caved in on an interstate it would have cost a whole lot more than what the firewood was worth.

Yah, I understand the safety issues, but had 4 loads to haul and it didn't seem heavy as I was loading it. A bed 8' wide and 12' long can really be overloaded if not paying attention and being careful plus it was an old, old trailer. I sold the trailer to a farmer for hauling a bobcat and got a big gooseneck trailer, but now I don't have anything much to haul.

I wouldn't be surprised if you were right....Ash is heavy, and it was stacked pretty tight. I wouldn't have put that much on a 7K trailer, and definitely not without trailer brakes! After the discussion about his factory brake controller not existing, I asked if he felt the trailer pushing him around under braking and he said something like "oh yeah, every time I slowed down I could feel it really pushing me".....d'oh! I gave him a printout for the correct Tekonsha brake controller for his rig a few minutes later

That trailer filled to the top of the rails with green ash is probably right at it's rated capacity. Your "well over 10k" estimate is sound.
