Not necessarily, in fact, probably not. If you leave the pump engaged and drive down the road, you'll blow the seals almost immediately. I ought to know, ran a dump for years. I'd say the ram creeped up enough where the headboard caught the bridge instead. Dump boxes have a lock down to prevent that (creep), I'd say the operator didn't engage it.

No it was the safety chains only! Two silver safety chains, and you can see two more rusty big chains that the semi donated to securing things initially.

Oh that's right, I did read originally that the chains were holding it. For some reason I was later thinking the ball/hitch was still intact.
