His look pretty secure and around here he would get a safe hauling award. I've seen them stacked double high with a few in a third row and pulled down a major 65 MPH US highway like that. I would guess those to weigh 1500 lbs but it could be more depending on moisture. It's quite a load for a truck

Around here, that would have another row in the middle on the top (5-6 more bales)... The trailer has at least 20,000# worth of axles under it, so as long as the truck is up to it, the only problem is the lack of straps.

Agreed, when I pull hay there will be another bit on top, 4-6 more usually.

Front to back straps too.

I don't like the squatt in seeing on the truck though. He needs helper springs or airbags... Helps with stability

I would guess he couldn't pull it out of the hole and decided to lift it out. Probably would have gotten away with it if he had stayed on the road.

actually it can tie them quite good.

If you have a competent loader, and good bales, and your trailer has strong rear ramps ( not landscape ramps, but rather heavy ramps made for multi thousand pound machines ), then you can wedge hay in pretty tight.. and tight hay interlocks front to back good. add some on top, especially a single middle row, and that hay grabs good.

I HAVE, in the past moved hay on private back roads or in 'neighborhoods' or limited access roads like this, untied with neary a problem. however nowadays I always throw straps over even if it's just a mile down the road.

Worst hay i've seen is loose bales. I hate to move loose bails. hard to spear, they droop, rip when speared, and won't roll and get flat bottomed, and take on too much water due to not being tight.

Saw a pickup pull out of Home Depot the other day with a pallet of something fairly light like bags of mulch. Pallet was stacked about twice as high as you'd normally see, extended about two feet over the cab roof. No tailgate, nary a rope or strap in sight.
