One other potential thought for the generator wiring. Run another conduit line from the house to the barn. This would allow you to hook up the generator in the barn and supply generator power to the house through the additonal line. Inside the house, you could wire that into a dedicated transfer panel and select the circuits you wish to engage. Would prevent the back feed problems, etc, and not be a huge expense while you are in this phase of construction.

moeh1 - yes, thanks, that is why I originally asked the question with the trench open. In my limited understanding, I was thinking that extra line back to the house would be necessary. From what I gather now, it sure looks like the only way to do what I wanted with the transfer switch in the garage rather than at the main panels. Of course, I am so efficient, I already backfilled the trench. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Pour is DONE and the finishing touches and sealer going on soon. Should have some pics up a bit later today...

First thing we needed to do this am was to finish framing the front apron. For a nice, sharp edge and to ensure a min. 4" thickness at the edge, we screwed a 2x4 to the end of the driveway turn-around as a straight edge and fired up the cut-off saw.

That got us deep enough for the apron pour and, when the 2x4 is removed, the eased apron lip acts as another water dam to keep driveway runoff out of the garage.

Next we checked all forms for square and level, then strung a line from side to side. This line was used to determine the pour level in the middle of the slab, and a rebar stake was driven in at the appropriate height to act as a reference.

First truck arrived right on time and the wheelbarrows are set up ready to move 7 yards of 4000psi air-entrained outdoor concrete. No stopping now.

The entire perimiter footer trench gets filled in about 1/2 way up first th ensure the wire gets down and in properly.

Rebar is laid along the perimeter and gently worked down into the concrete to the proper depth.

As they worked around, they used the concrete rake to pull a layer into middle to hold up wire mesh.

Whenever they walked on the wire and pushed it down, they used a nail on the concrete rake to hook the mesh and bring it up to the middle of the pour.
