Dennis, seeing any performance difference?

Didn’t look.
I’ll do a speed test on both back to back and see.
The RV unit will stay active till the end of the billing month. So if you turn it on again after that , you paying for a month.

I have a suspected hardware problem with SL equipment. I posted a support ticket this morning, and got the message about "unexpected high volume" meaning response might be slow.

If you posted such a ticket, what sort of response time did you receive?

A few hours. Plus you had to be logged into your Starlink account.

About 2-3 days in early summer. My complaint was about loss of signal during even modest rain showers. Their polite in-app email response basically said to get used to it. Otherwise it’s been great since arriving in February.

with the billing and turning off the wrong dish that we had issues with it was sometimes hours or less then a day. It took me forever to figure out how to send a ticket in.....thumbs down when you search for an issue lets you open up a ticket....

So basically, no difference than DirectTV for reception/transmit in heavy clods with water or a drizzle or a storm.

I'm pleased with the response from Starlink support. They responded in about 24 hours, which was adequate. Told me they would send a replacement router (refurb) and replacement cable (refurb) at no cost to me. Sent me labels to use to send the bad unit(s) back.

Plus gave me a 1 month credit on my service in recognition of the lost usage. More than I was expecting. :)

We see a HUGE difference between Starlink and the WildBlue satellite system we had years ago. Wildblue used similar technology and geosynchronous satellites as Direct TV. Wildblue would lose signal in a moderate rain. With Starlink, we still have working internet in all but the heaviest storms.

My neighbor in the highly obstructed location is seeing a dramatic variation in speeds. As fast as 100+mbps but as slow as 1mbps.

Total guesswork, but could it be that it's fast when pointed up at an unobstructed satellite, and slower when shooting through treetops and vegetation which degrades the signal?

He's OK with this since its better than his old DSL. But also recognizes that things may degrade further when there becomes a snow load in the trees ....

My Starlink reception has improved in the last week or so.
It used to show obstructions that would block every 3 minutes.
After a software update and restart all obstructions disappeared and speed is up.
Don't know if the "birds in the sky" have increased or just app improvements.
Yah!

This is a new one for me. Speed fell off so O decided to run a speed test on SL app and keep getting this message.

I did the update to the app and restarted my phone and the message changed. Looks like they are aware although no notice that I can find.

I just run the Starlink speed check from my computer. It doesn't run the whole gamut of tests like the phone app does, but it works.

Just go to http://dishy.starlink.com/

or

http://192.168.100.1/ (That is the default router address, unless you have changed your set-up)

I used the router address you Provided and the speed test worked. Weird that the app has just stopped doing them. At any rate, speed is off a bit last couple of days. I will give it a few more days to see if it improves then I may reboot everything and go from there.

Thank you for the help!

Things have been significantly slower than normal here today as well.

I am curious what kind of plug others have used. Since it is mounted on the roof and exposed to rain, do I need a gfci? Also what about lightening concerns? Has anyone done any special grounding for it?

/ Starlink #2,959
The only "plug" is on the router part of the system which would be inside your home.
From the router to the antenna is a "special" comm cable which is what mates into the antenna and the other end into the router.

Plug for what? Outlet? The hole in the wall?

Technically, as the power to the antenna is only 48V, GFCI is not required for it. Per the specifications, the router is only rated for indoor use.

For lightning protection, good grounding, and surge protectors are highly recommended, and if lightning strikes at the house are a concern, a lightning protection system. Lightning protection is technically required at the first point after an antenna cable enters a house; the original Starlink round dish cables had a setof very small lightning control devices built into the cable. I assume something similar is present in the rectangular dish cables.

My Starlink router is plugged in to an outlet within 10' of a ground rod. My antenna is neither the high point of the roof, nor the high point in the area, making a direct strike unlikely. YMMV...

All the best,

Peter
