Sub-compact tractor

John,

I paid $79 for shipping from Sweet Tractor from KY to NJ, for a First Choice Tiller, I believe the cost went up and maybe close to $125 now. The tractor trailer had a lift gate and it took 3 days to get from KY to NJ. I just loaded the FEL with the tiller on the pallet and off I went. Down side you will have to cut the PTO shaft, not hard to do. The tiller was greased and oiled ready for work.

I thought the shipping would be a lot more.

I live on a dead-end street at the top of a steep hill. Tractor trailers have a hard time getting to my place. To make matters worse, there is nowhere they can turn around so they have to back down to a main road.

What do you mean py cutting the PTO shaft?

John,

Well perhaps you can meet them at the bottom of the hill? If not, delivery via a truck may not be worth it, unless you can pick it up at the trucking terminal.

The PTO shaft from the attachment to the tractor for any 3 pt attachment that is PTO driven will need to be cut. Measure twice and cut once certainly applies here. Search TBN again a lot of info on cutting a PTO shaft.

Do you have a pickup truck? If so, you can arrange to get it at the local terminal. Also, for additional $$ ($30) they will send a small truck to your house w/ a lift gate.

Don't know if $1,400 is a good price for the Befco (which is a fine product), but first choice & King Kutter (also decent machines) should be about $1K.

Congrats on your tractor purchase, you're going to love it (Especially the FEL).

I have access to a pickup, I could make arrangements to pick up the tiller at the truckers loading dock.

John,

I paid a little under 1400 for a Land Pride 42" tiller. I'm not sure how the two units compare.
Enjoy the BX!

The BX has a location below the PTO that is designed to accept a trailer ball or clevis for pulling such things. You can also use a bar between the lower arms to attach things too. Several guys have "invented" several such clever items. The B2410 has a drawbar that can slide in and out, the BX "draw bar" is fixed but works well.
Hey, good luck with the BX, glad you got the FEL, you are going to love it. J

Great to hear you bought the BX.Check out Carvers link on this site they show $1250+ship for a first choice tiller and it would fit right up(if a kubota dealer is selling it to you you should not have to do anything more than attach it and go, if not I would not deal with them. I do not wish to "make it fit" unless they are practically giving it to me.)
Our local Kubota dealer was at $1300+tax for the Kubota tiller and it was slightly cheaper for a Land Pride.
If you want to use a draw bar to tow something there is no go buy it solution that I have found, I made mine, most of the ones that have shown up on this site the owners have come up with their own version to do what they need. Do a search on "hitch stuff" for my version, and I like the one triangular one that posted up out of angle iron nice and simple.
One thing to look at on tillers I looked at a "bargan brand"one that had the tines that are one piece that you had to take the shaft apart to replace one of them. Not saying your going to replace a blade but...you probably will be replacing a blade or two sometime.

Have fun

I talked to Carver this morning. The RT04 tiller is $905 plus shipping. I plan to order one soon after they deliver my tractor.

Congrats on your new tractor. Your gonna love it.
Good thread. Funny to see all us who worked our way up the compact chain so to speak. I was hoping for a 2410, tried it out but also tried the 2710 and loved it. ...and the 2910 was just a little more and had a few extras ... then i find out the L3010 taint but a wee little more, and it has all that extra weight etc. Last April I became the proud owner of a Grand L 3010. Since I was already streching my budget, I also considered doing without the FEL for the 1st year or two. With help from fellow TBN'ers, I saw the flaw to that logic. I got the FEL with the tractor and am so glad I did.
Welcome to the Kubota / TBN family!
