Talk me out of a new truck?

Find an independent mechanic that knows Ford diesels. Your friend paid for a bunch of stuff he didn't need because the shop didn't diagnose it correctly. He probably had a leaking STC fitting on the HPOP and some other minor issue that he paid $6000 to hopefully fix. All 8 injectors don't fail at once. They're just throwing his money at it to try and fix the problem.

If it really bothers you get another used truck bit consider the following:

1. Who knows if the next truck will be better or worse and when it will break?

2. A transmission rebuild would set you back $5k and has nothing to do with which truck you buy.

3. You can get nickel and dimed on minor stuff (bearings, ball joints, electrical, etc.)

4. My truck looked fine 3 years ago now the cab corners are rotten and the cab paint is starting to get thin. $2k to fix and repaint.

Just sales tax alone for a $40k truck is $2500. That could take care of a repair bill. Interest for one year would probably handle another one. Keep your truck, keep doing the maintenace on schedule. When your truck is paid off, put the payment amount aside monthly for repairs and or your next truck. You should be good for another 200k miles.

Ok so I've got a 2007 F-250 crew 4x4 lariat 6.0 with 79,000 miles on it, I bought it just over a year ago and still owe $12,000 on it. I have had 0 problems with it but last week a friend put his in the shop with a bad HPOP & FICM $3500 later he got it back and the very next day it broke again, needed all 8 injectors another $2500 worth.
Someone tell me a 6.0 ant that bad.
Note: Friends truck had a programmer on it and he drives a little harder than I do, but he never pulled anything, ever. I recently got a little Ranger to do my daily driving in so the 250 doesn稚 move unless it痴 pulling about 12,000 lb. My mileage will be 5000-7000 a year at the very most.
Thanks

Sounds to me you have at least two reasons not to own that F250 diesel--too few miles/year usage and possible extremely expensive repairs in your future. Time to switch to a gasser. Mine is a 2004 Isuzu NPR tilt cab stakebed with an 8x14 bed by Supreme. Bought it two years ago off eBay for $11K with 49,500 miles showing. Engine is the 6.0L GMC LQ4 V-8 gasser with the GMC 4L80E 4-speed tranny (one smooth shifting tranny, best I've ever owned). It's not a particularly good towing truck with the 4.77:1 rear end, but the bed is large enough to handle my small 4000 lb parade tractors. It's a gas hog, but I only put about 1500 miles per year on it.

Good luck.

Only two things should "talk you out of" a new pickup. Dollars or the significant other...

Ok, I'll talk you out of it. You say you would have to make payments. Enough said. You can't pay cash that's why you shouldn't buy it. If you can pay cash for it. there's no reason to talk you out of it. You can afford to take the hit if you can afford to pay cash

I don't know much about Ford diesel trucks. If you're worried about the parts that commonly fail on the 6.0 there are plenty of aftermarket companies out there that sell replacement parts out there that are supposed to take care of the common problems with these trucks. The 6.0, 6.4, and 6.7 are a pain in the butt to work on, but with common mechanical knowledge and patience they're not that bad. If you're on a powerstroke forum or any diesel forum I'm sure there are plenty of write ups on how to solve these issues.

They don't call them for six uh-ohs for nothing. They are known for being problematic. That said, the newer ones are suppose to be much better than the early ones. Also like so many other trucks, adding power adds problems. I own a Cummins and keep a pretty close eye on the forums. They also have problems. I like reading the posts that read something like this. "I just fried my transmission. My truck is all stock except a programmer, 100 hp injectors, a 12" stack, and a bigger turbo. I don't understand why I broke it, I drive so carefully to and from the dragstrips and truck pulls before entering the truck".

a friend put his in the shop with a bad HPOP & FICM $3500 later Thanks

Best way to keep the FICM from going bad is to keep good batteries in it. even if it has enough juice to crank and run it can still have low enough voltage to damage the FICM. At least that is what i was told when they had to replace one on a company truck. One battery had gone bad but it would still start up and run, rough I might add.
