What's your plan for a tailgate? Are you going to have one?

I'm not sure if I am going to have one. I will give it a try as it is first. Unless I was hauling somthing lite like mulch I don't think I will need it. If I do need one I will build one with over slung hinges on top.

I was wondering if that would be the plan if you needed a tailgate. The only thing I would mention is, if you do decide to go with a tail gate, that with the short side walls - things can get stuck in the gate while dumping. You may need to put in a taller post at the rear for the gate to hinge on and allow a taller gate for clearance. That, of course, depends on what you end up putting in it too.

The build is looking great so far. I'm looking forward to seeing it when the bed is done.

Over the weekend I got all the welding finished. I changed my plan a little. I used 3/4 plywood for the floor and sides. I think the plywood will hold up fine with the liner. I got all the plywood cut to size and started painting. I hope I will have the hyd. pump by Wed. I am planning on mounting it on the tongue. I have to give the wood another coat of paint and the I can screw it down. I am using Tek screws to fasten it down.

I am waiting for my hyd. pump to show up and am trying to decide whether to mount it in a tool type box on the tongue or do somthing different.Between the battery and the pump I will be adding quite a bit of tongue weight. I also need to decide how big of a battery I will need. Do I need a deep cycle? I also thought about mounting a solar charger on it.

Solar seams like a good idea as you won't have to worry about putting a maintainance charger on it then...unless you end up storing it indoors.

Deep Cycle

Solar charger

Be sure to wire it to be charged by the truck when it's being pulled too.

I got just about every thing done. I do have to go back and touch up the paint and add grease zerks to the hinges. My hyd. pump arrived Friday. I bought a plastic tool box at BigR that it fits perfect in. I mounted the battery back between the axles. I have 130lbs of tongue weight now and didn't want to add another 30lbs.With the box raised I have 90lbs on the tongue. It took a while to figure out how to wire the remote since they didn't include instructions. I used uthf in the pump so it would be the same as the tractor. It takes 25 sec. to raise the box with no load on it and the same to lower. I used 3/8 lines from the pump to the cyl.I still need to build something to hold the remote so I can reach it from the seat. I was looking for a tongue jack on the auction site and they wanted $35-$40 plus $20-$30 for shipping. I found one at my local Farm & Fleet for $31. I am going to weigh it this week. I am guessing it weighs around 1000lbs. I was trying to think of something heavy I could set in the trailer to simulate a load and see how it raises. I don't want to wait for warm weather.

Is there enough snow piled anywhere to fill it with snow?
