Trailer looks great! Wish mine was that far along but I have not had time to work on it lately. You got yours done in a short time, good job, Greg

Trailer looks good:) Did you ever weight it? Find what it can dump and not yet? I know the 4X8 dump I built weighted over 1k empty and I used some heavy thick stuff, I would "guess" yours to be 5-700lbs empty. I did alot of guess work in my build also and so far it still works, I can fill the box heaping full of dirt and it will dump it without hesitation. It's very gratifying to watch something work that you built.

It weighs 1025lbs. I havent had a chance to put any real weight on it yet. If it stays dry this week I may be able to start moving some dirt.

I would have never guessed it to weigh that much....
I have one other question...Are you going to have trailer connected to the 3pt hitch on the tractor when you dump?

Yes it will be hooked to the TPH when I dump. I have a chain that goes from the top link to the draw bar to keep the TPH from raising when I dump.

I was gonna suggest that if you didn't already have it cause you will get a negative cg while dumping.

I finaly got to try it out today. The dirt was a little damp but not bad. The first time I put 2 buckets on for a test run and every thing worked as expected. The next load I put on 3 heaping buckets and that filled it pretty full. I can probably get 4 on it. When I dumped the hitch didn't raise at all but I will leave the stay chain on for safety. I am guessing I had a little over 2 ton on it. I am going to have to see if I can hang some weight on the TPH so I can dig into the pile with the FEL a little easier.

Very impressive trailer ,I like your approach ,look, think ,check etc.I'm not a CAD engineer but just at a quick look I dought if you could make the hitch lift if the end gate is open it would be difficult to get enough weight behind the rear axle to make it over balance.Correct me if I'm wrong.

I use my Tacoma for pulling the little dump trailer when hauling dirt, I can see where you would have difficulty diggin into a pile with no weight on the back of the tractor. I'm guessing since since you have a tandem axle trailer then that is the reason your not getting a negative tounge weight when dumping...just a guess though.
