Don't get me wrong..I was blue collar for a lot of years..but the money is in white collar unless you're union...and most of that work goes overseas to the slave labor.
Never did like to play them games. You go down to your local mall,,plenty of salespeople in there wearing 1 dollar ties,guess they gotta look professional too?I got boots that cost more than their whole outfit.
Ties make real pros look silly,and they make not really pros look cheap and more silly and it gets hard to tell them apart.
Your clothes are supposed to match your work,,,can't figure out what work a tie would help at,,,and nothing goffier than seeing someone in a tie actually working,with that tie fluttering around his neck.Just like brief cases for most of the people who carry them,,about all they got in them is lunch. thingy

Thingy, most Engineering types don't do much manual labor...occasionally they'll turn a wrench (at least the guys I work with) and dress appropriately when that happens.
Most of our work is office based and deals with managers, other professional employees or customers. And, one has to dress appropriately for that, just as those sales people do.
If you worked in that environment, you'd probably have to wear a tie too.
Even my steel toes look somewhat like dress shoes.
That's just the way it is... Anyway, that's enough on this off topic subject.
