This day in 1997, of my house build

And I was working full time. I took off when I could.
I sold my last house before building, and rented a house about 2.5 miles away from my lot. I was an hour from work, so I would leave home at 5:30 am to get to work by 6:30. Get home about 4:30, change and get working on the house about dark this time of year. Then work on house till 10 or 11 at night. Or I would pick up supplies after work some evenings, to use the next day if I was taking off.

I contracted out concrete, excavation, drywall, insulation, siding, septic, brick, ductwork, flooring. Might have forgotten one.

19970213 - Thursday

Had load of #2 stone put on driveway as a base.
Took off early from work, framed on the bay window. 45° walls are a pain.
Put tarp on right side of house.

19970214 Friday Valentines Day

Snowed 2-3” which is why I put a tarp over part of the house. Turns out the tarp was in the way and didn’t help keep things dry.

Lumber delivery for 2 nd deck and upstairs.

Took my wife out for valentines.

We were -7F this morning with snow on the ground. Brrrrr….

19970209 - Sunday

After church service, worked on framing Bay window and marked top plates for 2nd floor joists.
Can see where deck extends for bay window. Can see my neighbors house under construction, he was also building it himself.

I love that. Two guys both building their own homes in the same neighborhood

Looks like you were losing your snow. Was it muddy under foot??? Construction sites are the worst....

Overall Mud wasn’t real bad. Lots of wind, so it seemed to dry fast.
It was a mild winter, best I could hope for, although this yr is better then it was then.
