This stuff gets heavier as I get older

Any of a number of tricks to avoid lifting and connecting at the same time, while laying on the ground. ;)
The first trick I found on mine to avoid lifting the deck was setting the cut height adjuster to the lowest possible setting allowing the lift arms to go as low as possible. Easy now.

I thought, "Harrumph, I ain't commiserating with a bunch of old guys", but wait, I are one, 76! Sheesh, where did the time go?

Yes - it comes on ever so slowly and surely. I'm 79. I finally figured it was time to quit riding my motorcycle. God knows, I hate giving that up. But it's become just a little too hazardous. Being my cycle was a BMW R1200 GSA - my legs were always too short.

But I haven't given up the fun of "full face in the wind". Bought a brand new CAN-AM 650 Outlander last week. And my new Power Wagon is a real fun rig to drive.

It's just that - four wheels are so much more stable. I bought my first motorcycle in '66 and have owned one ever since. That's probably my fair share.

At 82, some things are just heavy enough to figure out the easiest way.
Wife's long-arm quilter sewing head (75 pounds) needed to go in for tuning and some repair. They would not send anyone out to do the job (regardless of covering their cost) so had to deliver it to them. Could hardly lift it, and had to get down a flight of stairs. Not going to happen.
So moved it to a table, then down onto a wheeled dolly, then rolled to the sliding door to the deck, then into the bucket on the FEL JD 4300, then into the rear of the SUV. Short carries and no steps.
Two days later, reverse the routine and lift it to the deck railing, and back to the quilting frame.
Wasn't too bad after-all, just took time.

A very wise assessment!

beenthere - sure it took longer. But you used your head and didn't get hurt. It's for DARN SURE - I wouldn't be lugging around a heavy sewing head or anything near that heavy. I have a hand cart for the heavy stuff.

fried - thanks for your kind vote of confidence. The great thing - I can pull the ATV out of the garage and I can go forever in most any direction. Just have to remember where all the gates are and close them behind me.
