Now I'm confused. Why the separate forms for the posts?

Post forms with footings were poured yesterday separate from the main slab so that the slab can move independent of the footings. The post locations will have an expansion joint around them.

I do that so I can make the concrete base higher then the surrounding concrete to help keep the bottoms of my posts as dry as possible. I didn't know there was any movement that would require the base to be isolated from the slab. Is that code or required from an engineer?

Our pads will be flush with the concrete. The larger pads will get a riser post in the center for the timbers to sit on then concrete block around it to build up a stone column. The smaller pads will get a post plate for the posts to sit on that will keep them a 1/2" or so off the concrete. Not sure if it's code or not (we have no code to follow here in the county outside of city limits) however it's good practice in my area of NW Missouri due to potential for frost heave. If the slab was not independent of the footings frost heave would cause the slab to crack around the footings because it couldn't float independently.

BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Really a nice job on that concrete. It's night and day better.

I'm getting more and more excited to see how you are going to do your porch and finish off the building.

It does look great. Always wanted to do a stamped walkway or patio.

Thanks everyone. The contractor we used is by far the best in our area. They do a lot of really nice concrete overlays as well to refurbish old concrete.

Ready for the next pour. Around 20 yards of concrete getting poured tomorrow. After that they will form a step coming off this area and bring some dirt in for finish grade around the concrete.

The remainder of the concrete is finished. Finish grade is done as well and even though its a little late I went ahead and got some grass seed down today and covered with straw mat. Next I need to work on sound for the wedding area and string some cable for some string lights I plan to install.

That turned out great. Huge investment, but it's going to make your place one of a kind!!!

Thanks Eddie. My Landscape contractor showed back up today to do the curbing around the wedding area. I've never seen a concrete curb machine in action until today. Their machine had a hopper they fed with a plunger that forced the mix out of the bottom mold and pushed the machine slowly along as it was laid. There were adjustments on the machine for tilt to keep it level as well. Right now the coloring looks red but they promised it will be a brown/tan color similar to the stonework after it's washed off. Crossing my fingers.

Like your home and other property, it is first class and quite impressive.

I've never seen that done before either. Looks pretty simple, but also, labor intensive!!!

It was labor intensive based on the short time watching them work. Unfortunately this may be my first setback. Color still looks very red and clashes with everything else after washing it off. May have to be tore out if it cant be fixed.
