TripleR - remind me not to walk through your back yard:D

I reckon carrying the pistol on my person while on the tractor would be the best method, and covered up also so as to keep dirt & dust out. Then again, I might build a glove box of some sort that will be within easy reach.

Hey, it is embarrassing, she out shoots me every time until she puts quite a few rounds down range and starts flinching. She has killed more deer than me too:eek:

Covered is probably your best bet to keep the crud out. I have a cab, so it is not an issue of dirt for me, I just hate to wear a belt now that I don't have to. I really don't even like to carry a gun anymore, but it is probably a good idea.

One day we were riding on the golf cart and drove by a large rattle snake. My neighbor was on the cart with me so he told me to run to his house to get a gun. The snake was on the drive between our property.

He got his Judge out of the truck. We hopped on the cart and drove back to the snake. It was coiled up and I shot it with the .410 shell that was in the gun. It continued to sing, so I squeezed off another round.

Little did I know there was only 1 .410 shell in the gun. I blew it's head off with the .45 from about 15 feet away.

I looked at Jim and said, "I meant to do that". :D Luckily I had a witness, because I don't think I could have even hit it with the .45 if I hadn't thought there was a .410 shell in there.

As far as gun on a tractor. My other neighbor was bushhogging last summer and shooting rats with his .45 loaded with shotshells. Something happened and he shot himself in the left arm, fell off the tractor and ran over himself. Luckily the bushhog was not on. He has been out of work almost a year. He has had several surgeries and had Staph set up in his arm. They still don't know if he is going to loose that arm or not.

Most often it's a .38 snubbie or a little Ruger SP101. Works great for me.

Legally it isn't a shotgun if it has a rifled barrel...

I vote for a Tauris Judge in your home made glove box.

Mostly I carry the XD 40. Sometimes I will take the wife's Bersa .380 just for kicks. It's a cute lil gun. Rattlers are dead meat, I let the other snakes take care of the mice and rats.

Where/how do you guys carry when on the tractor?

Is there a preferred method in terms of safety - holstered on your body, or holstered/stowed on the tractor? I am a practiced shooter and can draw, rack, and aim very quickly.

For snakes the FEL does a fine job. Even if it is full of something, a backdragged snake is a good snake...
I thought there was a Q/A attachment for snakes and the like!!!

Nope, but use to have one attached to the FEL mount. A rifle is just too unwieldy for me.
