Tractor gun, what do you guys think?

Lost, It looks like you need one of those Calico 100 round 9mm pistols ! :D

LOL...that might be enough rounds for me.

Lost - I don't compete, but I do practice a lot. Snakes don't give me the heebie jeebies, so getting close is no big deal. Plus, I'll be up on the tractor.

The 3" barrel takes getting used to, but if you spend a fair bit of time working with it and learning how the recoil assimilates into your particular hand and arm set, then you can be as accurate with it as with a 5" barrel.

A shotgun would be a better tool in the case of varmint blasting from the tractor, but stowing the thing, even a sawed off, would seem to be a pain.

Never been all that great with a pistol. I have a .40 3" barrel...no problem hitting a man-size torso at fairly respectable range, but I'm not a great shot. Of course, I don't get much practice time, so there might be room for improvement. Always been a little jealous of those folks who make a pistol almost effortless.

Personally, I'm kind of a fan of the Judge mentioned before. I've been thinking for a while that might be my next purchase. It would suit me better as an outdoors/tractor weapon.

Now, if flamethrowers were legal ...:D

Are you thinking like I am, that it might be profitable for someone to develop a good rack or scabbard for a tractor gun?

I have seen commercial scabbards for a quad. It might be pretty easy to adapt one to a tractor.

I have seen commercial scabbards for a quad. It might be pretty easy to adapt one to a tractor.

I have a couple of hard plastic ATV scabbards and have looked at locations to mount on the tractor but have yet to determine a good spot. The problem is that the canopy makes it difficult to remove the shotgun due to its length. Like others I have been seriously considering the Judge as a tractor gun. My only concern is whether the Judge will hold a tight enough pattern to kill a snake from 12 to 15 feet.

I would get one of these VADS units but I don't have enough square miles to contain the ricochets. :D

If youve ever witnessed a live fire - Awesome!

Edit:
This one's a better size for a tractor:

Actually I don't carry a gun on my tractor. 99% of our snakes are black rat snakes. In fact last night I pulled a 5-footer out of the drop ceiling in the basement. He must have pushed my vent cover out of place.

I forgot to mention I carry a taurus 3" 38SPL if I carry anything.

I think the Judge would make a great tractor gun.

3 .410's and 2 .45LC's in the cylinder should take care of most anything that may come up.

A Previous post mentioned a Bond Arms Snake Slayer which is what I use. .410 #9's work well on snakes and moles etc. It will also shoot .45 long colts but I tend to keep the shot shell in it on the tractor. Fits great in the cup holder with the holster. It's definitely a close up gun. 5'-8' works well. Spread is too great for a distance shot so I normaly get off the tractor to use it. Kind of a pricey gun for just a snake gun but it's a quality piece and handier than the judge (was even pricier) which was what I was looking at when I bought this one.

In addition, the T/C is legal. Not sure about what you have pictured. It looks like it might be a sawed-off double barrel shotgun fitted with a pistol handle but without a trigger guard. Be careful.
