No newbie attitude. You just said the same thing I said so you must have the same "Newbie attitude." I said everyone thinks they have something grat, made in the USA or whatever, and it's all a conglomeration of everyones junk. To each their own.........

Interesting how this topic of TSC went in so many directions. I'm with 5030 on his comments about prices of tools, quality, etc. If I can buy and support a US company I will but most of the time I can't find things made here and if I do the costs very often don't fit my pocket book. It sounds like TSC is not much different than other stores and us. They buy where they can to give them a certain profit. At least they are in the US and employing the locals in their stores.

majma; They are like other stores. The Tough S%&* we have here is quite disappointing. Reminds me of the fast-food place that sells different amounts of chicken pieces. They'll sell you 6 pieces but not a 1/2 dozen /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

More times than not I'll walk out with the same amount of money I went in with. Example; I asked the expert at the service counter if he could get me a toothbar. Absolutely not a clue what I was talking about. I then asked if he could get me bucket teeth, he then referred me to hayrake tines /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

What the crap!? At least the guy spoke a version of English. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

It seems they should change their name to something more appropriate, like MAYBE Tractor Supply. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

John, Tractor Supply Co. has the same problem everyone else has; they have to hire humans. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif So the personalities and knowledge varies from one to another. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I've bought things in five different Tractor Supply Co. stores and I've found prices do vary in different stores and the expertise of the employees varies, as expected, but so far I've not had a bad experience in any of their stores, although I have had some interessting ones.

Bird; Maybe my horizons should expand. They are opening a new one about 20 miles away. I'll try to keep an open mind. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I agree - while TSC is not perfect, and I've rarely run into an employee there who has been able to give good advice for MY project, I'm still glad they are there. They've got 3PH and PTO parts, a reasonable supply of repair parts, and at my local store all the hardware of a given grade is the same price per pound. I love that! I can grab a bag and fill it with bolts, nuts, washers in what ever quantity, no counting it out at the counter. My wife can get stuff for the horses and chickens, they've got a good selection of gate hinges and latches (I build my own stalls and gates). And where else can I go and pick up a BB or the arena harrow I got, and take it home and use it today? I don't have time to drive all over creation getting things together.

By the way - get a catalog and use the web site before you go. Then you will have a better idea what they have, and won't need to interface to the emplyees as much.

I've met the owner of my local TSC a few times and have mixed feelings. Sometimes he's super helfpul, and other times I feel he would just like to get rid of me.

I've found some great deals on special items, but Home Depot will beat most of their prices and my favorite farm supply dealer will adjust his prices to keep my business.

I also have trouble with inventory of small parts. They are always out, to I've just gone some place else.

My biggest pet peave is there catalog will list something I want, but they wont carry it, but will charge me shipping to get it.

All in all, its a great store and fun to just walk the isles. I love looking at the catalog and when they mark something down, its usually a HUGE discount.
