Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Trygg chains installation

LouNY, if you look at the first pic in his original post you will see that these chains are "SMT" chains, not SMT Flexi. Trygg makes 3 different versions of the SMT chain 1) "SMT" fits specific tire size without needing adjusments, 2) "SMT Flexi" that fit several tires sizes and can be adjusted without tools and 3) "SMT Combo" fits several tire sizes. Here is a link to the chains the OP has.

You are correct I didn't look up that part number on TRYGG's site, did just now.

Just looked up a Massey 1740m,
if tractor data is correct that tractor doesn't have 14.9-24's;

Standard tires (ag): Front: 8-16. Rear: 12.4x24
Optional tires (ag): Front: 8-16. Rear: 13.6x24
Lawn/turf front: 27x8.50-15
Lawn/turf rear: 41x14.00-20
Industrial front: 10-16.5
Industrial rear: 17.5L-24
Industrial front: 25x8.5-14
Industrial rear: 15x19.5

I don't know what tire he has,
an R1 12.4-24 could take a 603910 TRYGG SMT Flexi 9,5mm or a few other models,
while an R1 13.6-24 could use a 603521 TRYGG SMT 9,5mm or the 603910 TRYGG SMT Flexi 9,5mm or 9 others they offer.

I have the R4-1 industrial 14.9x24. I'm pretty sure I got the Trygg standard SMT too since I don't have that easy removable chain link like in the "Flexi" that I saw in your link.

Dealer mechanic will come this week to fix 2 leaky fittings on my blower chute lines. I will ask to take a look at the chains to know what he thinks about it.

Here is a link to the TRYGG website showing your tire size and the exact chains you have. Those are supposed to fit 14.9 x 24 tires without modifications. It appears you either have the wrong chains in the crate or your tire size is different. TRYGG Kjetting

I got some SMT chains for my 17.5l x 24 tires and they did not fit. Not even close but I expected that since there is no SMT part number for my tire size. I ended up modifying them but it involved more than just cutting some sections out. I also had to do some welding to get them to work. Here is a link to a thread I had going about this. See the last post where I have some pics. https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/snow-removal/417530-chains-17-5l-x-24-a-2.html

Thanks Hilbilly, I see in your pics exactly what I was thinking to do since only cutting the extra studded section would involve loosing those unstudded chain links that connect to side chain with shackle, so I would need to weld those further down. Thats what I'm gonna do if they can't get me the right size. Are you still happy with your Trygg chains ? Are they smooth riding at road speed ≈ 20-25 kph ? I have about 8 km to travel everytime I'm out doing my driveways (Gravel road)

I have those R4/R1 hybrid tire I'm wondering if the chains were meant to be used on R1, the difference in lug depth would easily add some circumference length to the tire.

I haven't had a chance to use the chains yet. Still waiting for some snow but I expect they will perform very well and ride MUCH better than the chains I used previously.

Most manufacturers specify a rolling circumference (or some such number) for each tire,,
maybe you can look up the R1 and R4 tires, and see if the rolling circumference is different,,,

I went through the too long chains on my new 2012 M7040.

I bought perfect fit TRYGG chains which were too long.

After contacting Trygg Norway, they had me measure the tire diameter.

Turns out the cheap tires Kubota supplied were 3" shorter in diameter than the Tire and Rim Association spec. This meant 9"+ too long.

Thought I was screwed. To their everlasting credit, Trygg had their Canadian Distributor in Quebec modify the chains to fit my tires at no cost.

I had to arrange shipping. When the chains came back they fit perfectly.

Here is the contact info and since you live in Quebec I suggest you contact them.

Hi David

We took off one section. Hope it will fit properly

Thank you

I have attached a page from the Tire and Rim association handbook. Suggest you compare your tires' diameter with the spec.

Thank you Dave ! Really helpful ! The dealer is coming tomorrow if they can't do nothing for me Ill go the route you went through. My tire size is not on the page of tire and rims association you posted and I couldnt find it on the web. They charge 100ish $$ on their website to get the handbook.
