Undercoating

My trucks used to get extremely rusty underneath in only 3 or so years - they are parked outside on gravel. They were so bad that my mechanic would tell us to trade them in while we could. I started having our vehicles Ziebarted a while ago for the undercoating and it really has worked well. The oldest vehicle I have right now is on its 8th year and no visible rust. We do the annual free inspections. Admittedly, Ziebart is a pain because they pressure you for 15 - 20 minutes each time, trying to get you to buy extra services. For me, rustproofing is much less necessary vs undercoating.

kind of interesting you did ziebart, the one thats tar like? that stuff is pretty much a death sentence to a vehicle

i use fluid film, i have seen it do some impressive stuff.

I have been surprised at how well the Ziebart undercoating has worked - night and day difference. My mechanic was impressed as well. Beats putting the truck up on ramps and climbing under and getting covered.

I have used fluid film for some years for storage items where I get 3 - 6 months if left outside exposed. UV is a killer of fluid film. Tarped, it will last longer.

I need to paint the trailer this year. Thinking of pressure washing (and possibly sand blasting), phosphate, then an industrial epoxy primer and a top coat. Still deciding whether to undercoat after the paint cures. Salt is tough on trailers.

I watched the video - ours have been nothing like that. I have no idea why the difference. It would certainly make me think twice and I have had good luck with it.

Rustproofing I have never seen the need for other than possibly sound deadening.

Krown all the way for me - a salt eliminator bath in May followed by a Krown spray July.

No rust issues.
