I have a jet ski and it has a warning label that says "Warning - do not place any body orifices over jet."

I gotta wonder how low your IQ would have to be to try something like that!

Probably about the same level as the person who probably inspired the warnings in push lawnmower manuals that state to not pick the mower up by it's sides to use it to trim hedges.. etc..

It seems, as the story goes, that back in the '60's 9 (maybe '50's) a person actually tried to trim his hedge using his lawn mower.
Naturelly he lost 8 fingers.
As I recal it was Sears or Montgomery Wards that sold the mower.

An enterprising lawer took on the case, on contigincy, and actually won as the judge ruled that the chain store or manufacture was negligant in not labeling the mower against finger placement.

I also believe that that was the start of our now famous humongous law suits and class action suits.

While we may be smart enough to realize tha potential danger, we must also realize that not everybody is as smart as us and need warning labels to state the obvious.

IMHO, anyone who is dumb enough to pick up the mower by its sides to trim hedges, is too dumb to read a warning label anyway.;)

I think tallyho hit the nail on the head.. if a person is not naturally smart enough to know that you can't do that sot of thing.. thn rather than make warning about every device known to man.. they should just not sell stuff to stupid people ;)

My wife bought a curling iron over the weekend and two of my favorite warnings listed were..."Iron can burn eyes" and yes this one..."Do not use while sleeping"

I saw a warning on a regular iron ( for ironing clothes ).. that said.. 'DO NOT OPERATE IN WATER'

Go figure...

I just bought my wife a portable DVD player. One of the warnings was, I swear, "Do not drive nail into battery pack".
Recken someone has a loose pack and a handy nail?

From my Kubota L48 operator's manual:
CAUTION To avoid personal injury:
Be sure to stop the engine before changing the oil

Sign on the property of one of my wife's clients:

"If you can read this, you're in range."

(A few buckshot holes in it, for effect.)

Warning label on a bottle of sleep aid pills:

"Warning: May cause drowsiness."

/ Wacky Warning Labels #154
One would hope they cause drowsiness. However I have seen a prescription warning on a sedative that said it could cause iritability and nervousness! go figure..

My 2-year-old was having a hard time falling asleep after we moved her to a big-girl-bed. We gave her a dose of benadryl for her "allergies" hoping that it would cause drowsiness.

It had just the opposite affect. That was a fun 4 hours of one silly, hyper, happy little girl who would just not fall asleep.

I guess that all things do not affect all people the same.

I believe I remember reading that benadryl can cause excitabiltiy in children..

A spoonful of sugar will help the medicine go down.

Actually you can mix some syrup or several spoons full of sugar in some orange juice and mix with the benadryl.

That is correct. Not an issue with most. But it is with some and its particularly annoying since it usually gets used to achieve sleep and not bouncing off the walls.:D

I had heard that too before the experience. At that point it was worth a try, though. The girl really did have mild seasonal allergies, so the doctor said. We just hadn't really felt it was bad enough previous to that to give her anything for it.

She's kind of a hyper one anyway, so I should have known. She sure was fun for that few hours.

On a Swedish chainsaw -

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO STOP CHAIN WITH YOUR HANDS OR GENITALS.

(What kind of consumer phone-call led to this warning?)
