The cycle stop valve in the well is working correctly with the temporarily added pressure tank.

This is the bottom box with a piece of tubing clamped in the slot to represent the freeze proof hydrant.

With the boxes stacked in the hole, the top of the top box was flush with the ground on the high side of the slope. I felt it would be better to have it slightly higher, so I made a 2" spacer from galvanized tube left over from the horse barn.

Now with the top box stacked on, it measures 28" high.

The old Cycle Stop Valve in the well has been working just fine with the added pressure tank, but I needed to get everything underground before the first freeze happens. The record low for October in Oklahoma City is 16 degrees.

The wellman was able to come out today and pull the in well pressure tank and Cycle Stop Valve that is attached to the bottom of it.

Replaced it with PVC.

Installed the new Cycle Stop Valve, pressure tank, pressure switch, pressure gauge and cut off valves. Then I put the boxes in the hole.

The switch and gauge are on the old flexible tubing so I can mount them as high as possible until I get the boxes waterproofed.

And the lid is on.

Got the lower box leveled and stabilized today. This shows were the PEX line to the outbuildings was cut and a 90 degree elbow put in to go into the lower box.

The flexible tubing for the pressure switch and pressure gauge on the Cycle Stop Valve.

The switch and gauge pulled up out of the boxes.

The switch and gauge pushed down in the lower box.

This morning I sprayed the Big Gap Filler around the openings for the PEX tubing, stainless steel pipe, PVC pipe and along the edge of the box.

Let it cure all day.

Then shoveled some red sand in around the outside of the box, this evening.

Chance of rain tonight, so I laid a piece of rubber over it.

I would line the box with foamboard and put a piece of foamboard inside the lid if you have space. That will help it stay warm when things get cold.

Thanks, I was planning to ask for insulating ideas as I haven't given it much thought yet.

If I don't have water infiltration problems, I can lower the gauge and pressure switch and have a lot of room for insulation below the lid.

I also wondered what would be the best way to insulate the pressure tank?

Today I put small round sand rock pebbles and crusher run pebbles where the hydrant drain hose will exit the box.

PA100003.JPG

Then covered them with strips of rubber to keep the surface rainwater out of the pebbles.

Put more red sand in around the lower box, up to where the bottom of the top box will be. Tamped it down and soaked it with water.

Hard to see in the shadow, but you can see the water soaking into the sand.

Got the hydrant installed today.

Note the all-thread that fastens the upper and lower boxes together.

And the hydrant drain hose going out through the drilled hole in the end of the lower box.

Used a holesaw, then cut the corner off of an old piece of plywood, to make a temporary cover.
