Highbeam,

I'm not sure which will be a happier day. The day I start it, or the day I sell it!!!!!

Greg,

I asked the mechanics at Case about the Headbolts and they say they re-use them.

Plowrup,

I picked upt he connecting rods today with the new bushings in place and hone out. The difference is HUGE from the fit of the old ones to the new ones.

I think I have a theory as to what happened with the engine.

The bushings were worn to the point that I hade play in the wrist pins by hand. I could wiggle the pins around in the bushings. The new bushigns are so tight that you have to get the wrist pins perfect for them to slide in.

Would slop in the bushing allow the piston to wobble around in the cylinder? I think so. Would this cause massive tapper and excessive wear? Again, I think so.

All cylinders had too much taper, but five and six were really bad. One and Two had new pistons in it, but the same slop in the bushings.

If the taper gets to a certain point, will the rings break?

This is what I think happened to my engine.

The picture is what the new bushings look like.

I put a clean towel down and assembled the piston on my workbench. The hardest part was the snap rings on the sides of the pistons.

These pistons were made in Brazil and are identical to the ones that came out of cylinders one and two.

Here are the pistons and sleeves lined up in order. You can see the old sleeves in the background.

This is the majority of the kit. Gaskets and a few small parts were also included in it.

Pistons are in the sleeves, and torqued down to 88 pounds.

This was a big step forward!!!

Here is a picture of the cylinder head.

I had to re-attach the lifting brackets before I can lift it, but Steph came home about this time. Saved!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
